    Stainless headers would be good.

    True!
There's a set of stainless headers on eBay, but expensive - there's a nice set that are already welded 4 into 1, but they're local pick up only and they're in Lancaster!

If you can get suitable headers, we can make em fit.

I've ordered some headers, the seller was kind enough to dicker on the price. I'm a bit shocked at the price of a carb repair kit, they're a tenner each and I've got four carbs!
I know that's not a fortune, but I've a long way to go yet - if it's all going to be like that this is going to be a much longer term project than I thought!
My plan wasn't just to throw money at it but things like that you've gotta have...
On a different note, my V5 says the bike was first registered in 1982 but I can't find a reference to a GPZ900 before 1984. I'm starting to wonder if it's more of a bitsa than originally thought?

Dull part of the job still ongoing. Exhausts now off (surprisingly simple, was expecting the studs to be seized), seat ordered and colours agreed with my mate (sort of, possibly, open to change...)

On the subject of which, it's bin night tonight and some idiots dumped a hard tail in bits between the bin and the back gate...

Chain now off, that's going to have to be replaced!
Can't work out how the rear caliper is held on, I'll have another ok tomorrow and see if inspiration strikes. I was expecting it to be bolted to the bracket but I can't see any bolts!
On the bright side, considering this things sat around for 10 years or so, so far every nut and bolt have come undone really easily!

On a different note, I shot up to Essex and got some second hand panniers for the Tiger today - lovely ride out.

Did I see Beelady heading north on the M20 in the afternoon?

Isn,t it bolted to the support bracket using one or both of the floating caliper bolts? Got a picture?

    Not a useful one, no

Will try for a better one tomorrow. This one was more to show the order the spacers went on..

No idea, I've never actually seen a real one so its hard to say!
It's hooked round the wheel spindle like a spacer at the bottom, so you can't pull the caliper off the disc. Alternately, you can't pull it off the wheel centre because its hooked on the disc - catch 22!
No doubt a solution will present itself after a nights sleep.
As soon as I can I'm gonna move the bike indoors so I can carry on with it in the evenings

if i am right you loosen the not on the top section ( although there may already be enough play in it ) and then once the spindle is out it allows you to to slide the calliper up and off the disc. You can then replace the spindle or just remove the rear wheel

I don't think so. But who knows? I'm never really sure where I'm going. As long as there's a bike in front of me I'll follow it. This can lead to confusion, but usually works out O.K.
You got lucky when you followed me back to Brenzett. It's just about the only road I don't get lost on. :)

Sure I saw a lady on a purple triple going the other way - there can't be another surely?

Anyhow, got some more done today. I won the battle of the caliper, it was all just a bit seized up and uncooperative but once I wiggled the inner pad out it all fell apart in my hands, allowing me to remove the spindle and then the bracket.

I found out in the process that the rear brake cylinder is shot so have ordered another.

I need to devise a way to lift the front end - the only piece of bodywork left on the bike is the front mudguard, and I can't remove that without taking off the front wheel (everything on this bike has a knock on effect I've noticed!).
[IMG]I wasn't going to bother fitting one, I've seen loads of bobbers without them, but this bridge on the front forks will look a bit odd without a mudguard under it.
All these bits are good to go...

I'm definitely getting down to the bare bones. I'm going to sit and label all the wires before I remove the loom, hopefully all in one piece. Wiring isn't really my thing, there's a few bits that need tidying up but I'm hoping to pretty much bung it back on as it comes off.
