With electric cars becoming more and being pushed hard with technology it is becoming a little more interesting.

New Nissan Leaf 2, 200 odd miles, and 0-60 in 8 odd seconds, still about £28k on the road.
In that report some very scary battery replacement costs though, would you spend 18k on set of batteries on a 5-8 yr old car?

It is not far off though being a well worth replacement for every day driving if you do a decent amount of miles, got to say I am more and more tempted. Especially when it is plugged in to mains in the winter you can pre heat it on the mains before you drive it, and in summer cool it while connected just before you go out :) of course pays to have a garage.

    Not a used one though.

Still no good to me. I can cover 500 miles in a day, especially when I do one of my regular trips up to Hull or Leeds as well as other far flung parts of the UK, so a 200 mile range is no good to me whatsover

Maybe when they get to 700 - 1000 mile range between charges I might be interested, by which time I imagine prices will have dropped substantially as well.

For the moment though, I will stick to my super comfy Jag...:);)

I was actually more thinking of a second car for me anyhow, it is surprising home many really short distance journeys I make as well as some of my longer ones.

The issue with electric cars is that it cannot be for the masses. How many people have private off-road parking ? I cannot see people laying out cables from their front door onto the street and I can't see the government or any other organisation stumping up for connection points for every car that has on-street parking...and private installation will be prohibitive I expect, once you tackle the scrotes who will nick your cables in anycase.

Hybrids are still the best option, if not Hydrogen.

It is a fair point you make, but even if I brought one for SWMBO, it is a lot of money to pay for a car that at best is only going to cover 2,000 miles a year tops.

I only paid £16.000 for mine brand new 8 years and 100,000 miles ago. £28,000 for an occsional journey into town? Cheaper to catch a bus or train which is ultimately what the Government and local authorities want anyway.

I noticed the Eva not list the weight in the technical spec, but does list this
    "
    PARK ASSISTANT

Back and Forth (2.8 km/h - 1.74 mph Max Speed)"

    Lol rather worrying

I also noticed Batteries warranty only 31,000 miles an odd figure although does not meant after 31k they shagged.

Induction Charging sounds great as well, however as said before, who will pay for the installations ? The government can't even pay for the roads, it would be again to prohibitive to do it privately, let alone some utility company cutting through your cabling whilst trying to repair something. It will take such a loooooong time to roll out that I think pure electric cars will reach critical sales very quickly (relatively).
Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, but like I said, I don't think its for the masses.

it's simple the M25 will be induction so while everyone is stuck in traffic jams the cars are charged :) Win win for the government as it will be a toll road base on time rather than distance so if you aren't stuck in traffic you run out of power and cause another jam

Though I had to Laff at a BMW guy the other day, they all find loop holes, stick a couple of batteries into a car and then it drops masses in taxes for company car owners. :)

We've had a Nissan Leaf for the past two years on a PCP deal. (Which includes the free use of a petrol car for three weeks every year, so we can still go away on holiday without any worries).
We have a charging point in the garage and charge it at home overnight.
No gears!! No more worrying about hill starts. Smooth to drive with beautiful and immediate acceleration.
We're a bit limited on the maximum length of journey we can make at the moment with this model but in another year's time we can swap it back for a new deal and a new model with a longer range; but we just uses it for school runs, for getting to and from work for my Wife and for family days out and shopping etc. so it's not a day-to-day consideration.
The amount we used to pay in petrol is now paying for the car!
We estimated we would do roughly 10,000 miles a year when we bought it but have exceeded that each year. Ooops!
I would recommend an all electric car if you don't do loads of motorway miles a day and care about the air you're breathing!!

Yes I think we will. We popped into Nissan just the other day and they told us the 2018 model will have a range of 250 miles, so that would be brilliant! (Provided we can still agree sensible monthly payments of course!).
I'm a bit biased as I have always disliked cars, but the electric car seems to be the leap I feel car manufacturers should have made yonks ago. It's so easy to drive too. My Wife prefers driving the electric car too and says she would hate to go back to manual car now.

Tesla's new roadster might have some appeal...600Mile range at Highway speed...0-60 in 1.9s ... but I have no where to put the dog.
