OVER 10,000 people have signed a petitionchallenging the Appeal of a motorist who caused the death of a teenage motorcyclist and tried to cover up his involvement.

The Motorcycle Action Group is urging more people to sign the petition, which calls for Brian Hampton’s appeal to be rejected and his six-year jail sentence increased.

Hampton, a 58-year-old health and safety consultant, struck 16-year-old moped rider Jade Clark from behind in his Volvo XC90 in February last year.

Hampton, who was already banned for drink-driving, had his car hastily fixed and lied to his wife, employer and a bodywork repair shop to hide his involvement in the crash.

He was arrested after police ruled out over 1,000 similar vehicles in a nationwide search.

Hampton admitted causing death by careless driving at Bournemouth Crown Court and was found guilty by a jury of perverting the course of justice.

The petition says: ‘Brian Hampton Appeal should be rejected and sentence increased

‘Hairdresser Jade, who was just 16, was struck by Hampton’s Volvo XC90 as she travelled along the A31 near Ringwood on the evening of February 24 this year.

‘Cruel Hampton, himself a father-of-two, briefly stopped at the scene before driving off, which left the youngster exposed to fast-moving traffic.

‘She was struck by one or more vehicles and died at the scene from her injuries.

‘This man has shown no remorse, no acceptance of his crime, and has proven he cares little about the victim’s family.

‘The fact that this man was given the lesser part of his sentence for causing a death needs redress.’

MAG National Chairman John Mitchell said: ‘He was sentenced to six years in prison – two for causing Jade’s death by careless driving and four years for perverting the course of justice.

‘He has now decided to appeal his sentence because he thinks it too severe. MAG thinks he should be locked up and the key should be thrown away.

‘This petition was created by Robert Parker when he heard the news. So far it has just over a thousand signatures which is not enough. It needs 10,000 to get noticed; 100,000 to get to the point where it can’t be ignored.

‘I would like to see it get that 100,000 signatures. Every signature counts.’

They should've allowed the appeal in order to increase the sentence.
