Dispersal Area to tackle anti-social behaviour in Wrotham
Measures to tackle problems with motorcyclists on A20 to run until October
    [IMG]
Kent Police officers are to be given more powers to deal with anti-social behaviour linked to the use of motorcycles on the A20 in Wrotham.

A Dispersal Area will operate over a five month period until October and has been jointly authorised by Kent Police and Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, under the powers of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.

    Gatherings
Kent Police and Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council applied for the order after reports of motorcyclists driving dangerously and risking injury to themselves and other road users. In the summer months there are frequent gatherings of motorcyclists who line the road and watch other riders performing stunts. Local residents have also reported anti-social behaviour as a result of the gatherings, including loud noise.

    Designated locations
The order is effective from now until 8 October 2014 and means that roads and public spaces on the A20 London Road will come under the dispersal area, between the roundabout junction of the M26 and the roundabout junction of the A227 and Bull Lane.

Under the Act, any group of two or more people found causing or likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress can be dispersed by a uniformed officer. Young people under 16 and not accompanied by a responsible adult between 9pm and 6am can be taken back to their home. Failure to comply could lead to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or three months imprisonment.

    Frequent complaints
Sergeant Ashley Boxall of Kent Police said: ‘During the summer months a common complaint in this area is that residents suffer from noise and anti-social behaviour as a result of these gatherings.

'The manner in which some of these motorcyclists ride puts themselves in danger as well as other road users and we now have an order in place that means we can move people on. Those who do not comply with the order risk strong penalties.’

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council's Licensing and Community Safety Manager, Anthony Garnett said: ‘The Borough Council is happy to support the work by the police and other partners to tackle this issue. It is just one way that we're attempting to address the problems caused by a small minority in this area.’

    what a crock of shit.
But interestingly "Under the Act, any group of two or more people found causing or likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress can be dispersed by a uniformed officer. Young people under 16 and not accompanied by a responsible adult between 9pm and 6am can be taken back to their home. Failure to comply could lead to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or three months imprisonment."

would apply to any group of police officers of two or more as they cause alarm, distress and if they are going there just to target bikers them that is harassment
am I allowed to fine a police officer :) would only need to find a couple a day and I could buy a new bike every week

There has been a larger than normal police present at the Oakdene the last 2 Wednesdays, now I know why. I think they may need to bring in the heavy mob if they think they can disperse this gathering! I for one say :finger2: to the police, it won't stop me going.
