Seven and a half hours, waiting for the bike to be recovered. Seven and a half hours!!!!!!!!!! Some one is going to suffer for this! If only I could work out who exactly it is I need to get cross with.

I thought about it, but the RAC kept promising they were only minutes away. As it turned out the chap who eventually turned up had come from the other side of London to pick up a crashed bike. When he arrived at the crash site it turned out it was quite a serious one and he was held up for a long time until the Police decided what to do with the bike. It eventually had to be taken to a forensic place and all the proper paperwork took a while too, so he was very delayed. It made a trivial break down seem not so bad, but even so, I shall be wanting to know why they couldn't find another recovery group to come and get me. On the way home he told me the RAC is useless for bike recovery and my wait was not a surprise to him. Turned out he's a Bandit owner and his breakdown company is not the RAC.
Happily all ended well and my Street Triple guru is available to come and start looking at the bike tomorrow. Favourite guess is stator or reg/rec as they're both common on Streets. Duff battery would be even better, but I'm thinking it couldn't be that simple. I may still need to call on your services to move the bike somewhere else if we're not successful. If such drastic action is needed you can tell me what your favourite cake is and I'll get my apron on and sort it out :)

It looks as if the bike may not be ready in time for this weekends Triumph rally in Icklesham. But I can't really complain. Tagg's are already rushing to get the work done as soon as possible and they were certainly the only ones who could start the job right away. It's all ready for the new stator to be fitted, but there are some final checks that need to be done once it's running again, to make sure there's nothing else that is going to cause problems later on. The stator is apparently very burnt out, so whatever else might be needed it certainly needs replacing. Out with the old and in with something a little better then before, so all good in the long run.
It's a shame about the rally though. It was going to be my first one on my own and a sort of test run to make sure I can use all my new, small scale camping gear. Lots to learn and lots of miles to do this year.

I shall go in the car tomorrow, just to show my face and hang out with some friends for a while but the main reason for doing this rally, rather then the Offas Dyke one, was for me to do the whole luggage fitting, setting up my tent and generally doing everything on my own test run. I thought if I cocked it up and all the luggage falls off on the way at least I wouldn't be on a motorway when it all goes wrong. I have some much further away camping trips planned for this year and I would have felt more confident if I'd done this one successfully.
Never mind. It'll be nice, knowing the bike has a nice new stator (because every early Street Triple owner is just waiting for this problem to appear) and it's not long until the next adventure, with some of you nice people on here :) And it could have been worse. It could have stopped somewhere up a mountain road in the rain. Outside the ice cream shop in Brabourne on a sunny day was really quite lucky.

More disappointed than pissed off. After x amount of sunny days missed, I finally found time to go for a first ride of 2018 (yeah, I know)... Put all the gear on, wheeled bike out... bike won’t start... dead as a parrot.
1hr later, after solving ‘crap battery’ problem, found another one. It starts ok but won’t keep idle and throttle is very snatchy. While test riding around the corner, bike stalled on me at slow speeds. So it’s back to garage for bike and me back to big sulk. :bhead::cry2:

Opening the 'fridge door this morning and finding it was warmer inside it then out. I am about to learn how to deal with it. If only I actually knew where it was plugged in …...

Have you knocked the thermostat dial inside? (if it has one, easy done when loading things into the fridge) or check it to make sure it is set right

I have checked that and twiddled it about a bit, just to be sure. I have checked its temperature to make sure it's not my imagination, I have found and read the instructions and I have found where the on and off switch is hidden in a cupboard and turned it on and off couple of times. The freezer is wired into the same box and that's still working perfectly.
I have 'phoned a friend because I have run out of ideas. :(
