YAMAHA XT500

Just bought this for my step son (used his money and my expert eye) and I am now stripping it down and gettingit registered for the road, only 7000 miles on the clock and it's in great condition for a 31 year old bike! Anyone else got any knowledge on these?

 

She's a beauty! My cousin bought one a while ago and managed to track down quite a few forums / experts online. Seems that there's quite a strong group of die hards out there, along with a wealth of OEM & pattern parts off the shelf. Good luck - I look forward to seeing the progress.

 

Know what you mean Finchy, they also hold their value as well, I got this one for £1953 reckon it's worth more than that and once road registered and MOT'd probably more like £2500. They certainly don't lose any value as they get older so a sound investment! My 7 yr old already has his eye on it so maybe it'll stay in the family?

 

Bit of a find I reckon . I had an XL500 after Honda ceased production, mainly for commuting for a couple of years & it never missed a beat. Just went thru' tyres as at that time nobody thought of using 17" road wheels/tyres.

 

I had an XL 250 Les, cracking bike but just a bit too small for my 6ft 15st frame, especially on M/ways, although it was light weight and fun off road.
