Thanks everyone used Alan's today, thank you Alan.

Stars and stripes, don't work there anymore the buggers made me redundant. You could go round and drop something else off though! Please use your imagination as to what I would want that to be

Alan has been a lifesaver today. Saved me from trying to bump my bike by having his little jumper pack with him. I think thats 2 pints I owe you at the next monthly meet now. :)

I did enjoy helping both you guys out today. Especially coz I gave Paul so much stick afterwards. Aren't BMW electrics worse than 70's Italian crap ???

err 2013 Ducati, had replacement heated grips and all switch gear all ready, ohh and the starter button all ready sticks in sometimes since its replacement, (rare now weather warming up) so engine starts itself as soon as you turn on ignition :( so not too sure 70's Italian Crap is any better than 2015's crap.

    whats the abbreviation for 2015............ 1970's 70's. 2015 is ????????

I had to buy a new digital multimetr not so long ago as the old one had a dodgy display.
So I went to B&Q & bought one that ticked all of my requirements for a measely £10. There are
cheaper ones on fleabay & Amazonia but I couldn't be bothered waiting for it to arrive.

That sounds like a true bargain. If only I understood what is a multimeter and how do you use it? But well done, at any rate. I have several absolute bargain tools in my tool chest but have only the slimmest idea of their manner of use. But I know I'll need them one day. And they were bargains...

A basic multimeter, like that shown, will measure & display a result of various tests that can be performed on electrical circuits ie. battery volts (12 or 6 volts), the conductivity of a length of wire (testing if the wire is broken between two ends using the resistance/ohms/omega setting) & battery drain (if the battery is going flat when the ignition is turned off). Those are just basic tests, but watch you tube for a more in depth use of a multimeter.

For such a cheap device, it can, with a bit of practice, greatly reduce having to resort to someone charging large amounts of money to fault find an electrical problem.

I honestly never thought of You Tube. Darn it. Ok - that's my homework this weekend. It explains why any electrical work I ever attempt is accompanied by the smell of burning and the occasional BANG!!!!! It might also alter the expenditure balance from favouring 'Get a man in to fix what I just burned out' to 'Look, Honey, I fixed it'.

Even the so called experts don't always get it right. I was working ata bike shop a few years ago & the boss had got an electrical 'specialist' in to find out why a certain bike wouldn't start. The 'specialist' was almost ripping his hair out in frustration in not finding the fault after several hours when I walked in. But by going back to basics it was quickly established that when the bike, a GSXR750 track bike, had been thrown up the track, the damaged engine cover had been replaced but the ignition pickups had not been looked at carefully. Once the gap between the rotor & the pickups had been reset closer together, the bike started up easily. I'm not sure if said 'specialist' got paid for his time as he didn't find the fault but I was glad of the cuppa tea in return for my tuppence happeny worth of advice
