I know you can get HID kits to fit to some bikes as I recall Roughie doing it a while ago.

I have just looked on Ebay (first place I thought) and for a decent power version your looking at 44 per bulb for the kit... so 160 for my bike... hmmm id like to see how much difference it made but cant

HID's are like the light of heaven! They are mad good. I'm in love with Josh's on his R1.
But, they are a novelty. If you want brighter lights I'd reccommend Osram Nightbreakers, I use them in the triple (has notably rubbish lights) and it improved matters hugely.
    Cheaper than HID too ;)

issue with hid is that the light throw is different and not designed to work with standard reflectors. in some cases retrofitting hid's into standard light housings will actually decrease the amount of vision ahead, not to mention theyre illegal and also when not set up properly a real PITA for the oncoming vehicle. Pisses me off with all these chavved up shopping trolleys that have them fitted and then blind me at night. your better off with either the osram nightbreaker or the philips x-treme power bulbs which were rated the highest in the ride tests.

I`m afraid they are NOT illegal mate. The below is taken from the Department for Transport website.

ok, will have a look at those, being that i only have a scooter, and at some point ill get rid once I have passed my test i dont really want to spend that much money on it..

but i spend a lot of time going up and down Hythe hill in the dark, and its terrible

Agreed. I hate them. And whats worse, it makes it much harder to spot coppers in unmarked police cars than it used to be.

HID's..love em! Transformed my jeeps 'candle power' headlights, now they light the road up excellent and no problems with beam issues. Plus being 35w they won't fry/melt any of the stock wiring, unlike some of the higher power 85/100w normal bulbs can do.

and blind the crap out of everyone :-S Some car lights are positioned in such a way, especially 4x4s, that if a car is coming behind me, the lights shine straight into my wing mirrors and reflect straight into my eyes so I cant see shit. Im all for having those blimming halogens banned.

I'm fitting them to the mini main lights as well as a 3 x spotlamp rail angled about the point of an R1 mirror :p

The problem isn't really the lights themselves but the point they aim at, if its incorrect then HIDs will only emphasise the problem, a possible solution may be to adjust the position of your mirrors so the beam doesn't angle into your eyes.

Sure, let me do that then, hey, who the hell cares whats coming up behind me anyway :sfight:

Adjust, not remove. You stroppy mare.
Just 5 degrees so that the glare doesn't distract your riding, you have to move your head for life savers so its not a massive impositon to glance slightly lower for mirror checks. Alternatively, embark on a crusade to rectify all headlights aims to a more pleasing angle.
I know which is easier though :p

I have the same problem in the car, that correctly adjusted headlights hit all my mirrors at such an angle its dazzling, I just tilted them slightly. Small price to pay for piloting awesome, in both our cases I reckon. :D

Biggest problem is not poorly adjusted lights so much as cars approaching over a gentle crest or round a bend. Self-levelling lights won't fix the former and neither will lights that track corners. Nothing can be done about that other than straightening and flattening the road! HIDs put out so much light you're going to get dazzled, correct adjustment, focus, whatever; the limit for halogens was set at 60w as a reasonable compromise between drivers seeing where they were going and the light blinding others. Unfortunately noone foresaw ways to use less power AND make bulbs bright when the rules were made.

As it's a scoot, you really need to check the manual and see what bulbs it's fitted with. Some use truly appalling 25w bulbs... but the problem is that the alternator/battery might not be capable of powering much more. Some info on make/model of the bike itself would help!

As I said earlier in this thread, remove the lamp(s), don't touch the glass and post pix of the plug in metal part and the socket that it fits in. What is the reflector and lamp cover made of? Metal , glass, plastic. More info will get you more help:)

well unless whats behind happens to have flashing lights  not sure you want that to happen again :hah:

i would be interested to see before and after pictures to see how these lights / bulbs really do make a differance ( i don't trust the advertizers pictures for some reason ) so if any one is thinking of changing them take some pictures first
