Boiler help please

I have just been told that I need a splitter valve for my boiler at £175 + VAT. Anyone on here know if that sounds about right? £280 fitted???

Google it! I paid £60 for summat listed at £350 !!!

 

its the diverter valve for the hot water if its the one am thinking of just over ride it for your hot water

cant say ive herd them called that but i guess you mean the diverter valve it means you can have h/w or c/h or both at same time if it is that then yes the price gos from about £45 up to £190 all deppends on what boiler you have. but ask him if he has looked at the flow switch cos this can cause same problem

 

I would question he's a plumber, never heard anyone call it a splitter value before. Before you say yes, get the make and model of your combi and ring Discount heating, plumb centre or city plumbing etc and get a price from them. If its not a combi and he talking about a port value in the airing cupboard then 9 x out of 10 you can just change the head but this has between 5-6 wires which need swapping, depending if its 2 port or 3,like for like. Then you can buy either and just pay the labour charge. Not that hard to change in all honesty but if its the diverter value in the boiler this should be done by gas safe register plumber as it's £10,000 fine for just removing the cover unless you do it yourself

 

... or quickly register with British Gas insurance for their homecare thingy. Our heating would still come on when only hot water was being heated, so I'm guessing it's the same problem. We got ours replaced completely FOC (although it did cost me a mug of tea).

 

we had the same problem ( if its the diverter valve ) ...quoted around £200 from the manufacturers but they had no engineer to fit it and put me in touch with a guy who said it didnt need repalceing and he could repair it .....he came round took it apart cleaned the internals of limescale and hey presto it works again as good as new ...cost£65 all in ( inc call out)

Thanks all. Well it turns out that the wife got the name wrong and it appears to be the diverter valve thing. Yes it is a combi and the radiators get hot whilst running the shower. Now when the heating is off the shower doesnt get very hot! Weird. Had a look on the net and the prices do vary. It is 10 years old (Alpha 240/280) but I am loathed to get a new one fitted. That would just take a large chunk of bike money away! So by the sounds of things the figure quoted is about right.
