    Hello

I'm thinking of doing a three day trip to (and up) Snowdon. I climbed it last year and it was great, but I started at 1am and got back to the bottom at about 8am so didn't get to see an awful lot. It looks like about 290 miles from Tunbridge Wells so I reckon that can be done with one or two stops. Fuel shouldn't be too pricy as I typically sit at about 75ish on motorways where I get around 60mpg. I haven't thought about when I want to do this yet but would most likely leave early on a Friday morning and return Sunday evening, camping two nights.

    Anyone else fancy it?

Could be a goer. To be honest I'm one of those weirdos that likes camping so it never even occurred to me. If there's interest on here I'll go with the majority though :)

I don't mind the camping, just having to carry bulky gear. I'm up for anything like this.

I stayed up that way a few years ago; went for a biking week and stayed in Betws-y-coed. Stayed at a bunkhouse called "The Vagabond". Was £17 a night B&B. Google it if you fancy somewhere like this. It's bum basic; dorm type rooms with bunkbeds in them but if you book in advance you can have a room to yourself if you cover the cost of all the beds in there. Showers are a communial affair but they are good and hot. Breakfast is excellent. Pub is 10 min walk away. Scenery is spectacular!

I got married in Beddgelert and lived in Penrhyndeudraeth for 8 years, so if you need any info, just ask.

Rob, roughly when are you thinking of, the next few weeks or later & never having been there, is the hill walking weather dependant?

Well I haven't really given it much thought... maybe in April/May. Climbing wise last time I was there I had to climb it in the wind and rain, as it was part of Three Peaks Challenge. Never did get to do the third peak as the person I was doing it with was useless but that's a different story.

I'm definitely interested in exploring a few of the roads around there, they have a reputation for being pretty epic :)

There is a road from Knockin on the A5 to Bala that is awesome and the road from Bala to Trawsfynydd is fast and challenging. Most North Wales roads are good, just gotta avoid the cops and sneaky cameras in sheep trailers!!!

Yep, North Wales police put a camera team in a broken down sheep trailer , in a lay by to catch speeders???

Have ridden in N. Wales a few times and have never seen any Police or cameras! Plenty of signs warning of cameras but never saw any

I don't feel good about that :cautious:

Right well after much consideration I'm thinking of heading up there for the weekend of the May bank holiday. This is a busy time for a lot of people I know so feel free to chime in with 'my uncle gets out of prison' or 'I'm washing the dog' etc

My plan would be to head off early on the Friday, hopefully get there shortly after lunch, pitch tent/check in to b&b, maybe explore some local roads that afternoon. Then climb Snowdon starting about 8am on the Saturday, probs get back about 2pm if I'm not in too much of a hurry. Bit of lunch and more, er, exploring :bike:

Leave Sunday morning, get home, early night and off for the May day run the next day.

    Thoughts?

Sounds good. I might even go for a look around before then, whenever there's a weekend of reasonable weather. I've driven around Wales constantly wishing I was on the bike.

I was thinking of doing this the coming weekend, but it might be too early in the year as they say it's likely to be wet. I know it rains plenty there but I'd like to be able to see something. Vagabond is now £20 b&b & seems highly recommended. Anyone else fancy doing a recce before May, maybe within the next few weeks? I was thinking of M4 to Newport then the twisty B roads north. Will post this under Rideouts.
