If you want to copy the textured look of the frame, try a thick coat of epoxy powder coat in satin black. IMO the hanger would look even better with some trapezoid holes cut out of the centre (not circular). Maybe change the fixing bolts for black ones with less pronounced heads too?

    Looking good. :)

Yeah that sounds good to me, how would we insulate it though? just out of curiosity

We can insulate it with a tube welded to the end and a rubber insert, as per the standard bracket.
Sadly I don't have the technology to cut trapezoid holes in stainless, this would normally be done with a laser or water jet cutter. Too expensive to have done as a one off! I can only drill up to 13mm holes in stainless with 5%boron drills and am still looking for hard enough jigsaw blades to do their job. I think a suitable powder coat on it would look good, but only after any other mods are completed. The only way to have a bracket with trapezoid holes would be another one out of alloy or better still, a fabricated, two 316 stainless tube bracket, which would be mostly triangular hole. Sadly this would also cost more!!!

To cut trapezoids, couldn't you drill pilot holes in the corners and then cut the straight lines with an angle grinder? If the bracket's going to be powder coated, it won't matter if it gets hot & tarnished during cutting.

On another note Alan - I might need to have a modified rear shock bracket fabricated for the KTM. I'm collecting it tomorrow and need to take a look at the ride height first, so I'll call you about it next week.

Be nice to see you again Finchy, I'm on evenings Mon to Weds and mornings Thurs and Friday.
Stainless is a b'stard to cut. You can cut the outside of a shape easily with an angle grinder , but the insides are almost impossible! Have tried various discs, carborundum, diamond etc and nothing works!!! If I find a hard enough jigsaw blade , I'll give it a go.

We sell diamond disks here that are designed to cut RSJ`s so should have no problems with stainless. I`ve just phoned the rep but he`s in a meeting so will get back to you when he calls me back with his recommendation.

Nice hanger, I'd be inclined to go for aluminium personally over stainless not only because its easier to manilpulate but a hell of a lot lighter to.
Although if you're set on stainless, how about one made of solid rod? Would be very elegant and angular plus far less material.

Thanks Paul, I have 1mm slitting discs for cutting outside edges, but I don't have anything that will cut INSIDE shapes about 35 x 25mm trapezoids.Anything that anyone knows will work, would be most appreciated. Please note, I don't have a milling machine, lathe or a TIG welding set,(YET).:rubhands:
I did sugest what you said earlier Dave, but Jack is on a very restricted budget. I had 2mm stainless in stock and it isn't much heavier( if weight is critical) than 5mm alloy , which is what I replaced a damaged Fireblade with. ;)

Plasma cutter will make pretty shapes, long as you have a steady hand ;)

You have to be bloody good with a plasma cutter to cut small holes in brackets without warping the steel Dave. When I get my TIG set I will invest in one and a compressor!!!;)

I said possible, not easy :p
You could probably drill out most of it and die grind the rest with the right head.
As it happens I have a brand new die grinder and compressor sat at home... Not that its of much use with me in hospital, haha.
