Hi All hope everybody is well.

I have a little issue with my R1 and I wondered if anybody had ever had the same problem with their bikes and found a solution...

Key goes into ignition fine but you have to waggle the bars for an absolute age to get the key t9o turn so the ignition fires up. Also, and more worryingly, The Key can then be taken OUT of the ignition once the ignition lights up!

The bike has never been tampered with so I'm guessing it's just wear and tear - even though its only done 18k in it's life!

As the keys are coded a new ignition barrell from Yamaha is out of the question (I think). Is this something a locksmith might be able to attempt to fix?

Any help greatly appreciated - It's doing my nut in.

Do you have a spare key that you don't use? If so, compare them and check for differences, or try the spare and see if you have the same problem.

Apart from that a new barrel is probably the only thing you can do. I wouldn't be surprised if they're abundant on the spares market though

I would give it several bloody good squirts of WD40, using the tube to get it right inside. Sounds like crud in the barrel making the tumblers stick, that WD40 should loosen. :)

This is a problem I have had often with the R6, usually after bike has been wet and then sitting for a while. I have used release oil to get it working again. I reckon I will eventually have to replace the barrel but so far it is still working the majority of the time.
