Jeff's looking for a a replacement for his dead gixxer & fancies a Blade. Wants to spend no more than £4,500 so we think about an '04-'05. Does anyone know the significant differences in models around that time? Also...things to look for in particular other than the usual like bearings, straightness, evidence of being dropped, service hist etc). Any input is welcome, thanks.

As I recall '04/05 are the same apart from paint job.

I had an '04 and it was a great bike, they did suffer from a speedo recall (they under read) and also from a regulator fault, but not all seem to be affected and mine never had any problems to 7700miles (when I sold it).

The speedo should have been fixed on all of them by now, check the service manual for a note about it to be sure.

Also worth checking the electronic damper still works properly, it has three levels of stiffness and there is a self test you can do to check it. Got the procedure saved on the PC somewhere still I think.

Some 04 to 07 Blades had alternator problems, some were replaced under warranty.

Came home after a week away to find Jeff has bought an R1, '04 I think, for £4250. Just have to find someone fool enough to insure him with his record. Thanks all anyway.

His is the same as yours , err except there are some now some scrape marks along the right side where son no 3 (Jordan) dropped it  yesterday when collecting it from Tonbridge for Jeff. He blamed a strange bike, 2 new tyres + wet roads...I blame him, arse. It'll now be a winter project to restore it, probably by me.
