Continental Conti Motions

    Hi All,

    Got a set of these for a steal at £125 including delivery and they are mint! Really warm up quickly and according to reviews you can clock up the motorway miles and they don't really square off. They are amazing in the wet really grippy and the tread patterns look ace too. Highly recommend these tyres folks they are a more harder compound that my old 2ct's but I can really feel the road more through them. Have to say that was probably the best investment I have made other than buying my Triumph :lol:

    OOOh, really? I need new tyres soon. Was looking at Michelin Road Pilots because everyone raves about them Where did you order these from?

    Im pretty sure mine is 180 rear but the thing is, I cant find how much average mileage you can get out of these bad boys; thats the only way to do a proper comparison.

    I've been using them on my FJ12 for about 3 years or so. I had a terrible run with punctures and haven't really kept track so can't be too accurate about mileage, but considering my bikes such a big, heavy lump they seem to last pretty well - getting a good few thousand miles from them. They may not be quite as good as the premium brands, but I ride all year in all weathers and can't complain at all.

    Covered 300 miles on them so far they are all scrubbed in just got rid of the tiny chicken strip that was left on the left hand lip of the tyres this morning and they stick like glue have to say very happy with them indeed and they hold their temps well too.

    Bloody good road tyre for the everyday rider, but won't cope with trackdays.

    "in mid-2008 Conti released their new “Motion” range. It’s not a tyre that’s appeared in any tyre test that I know of, but the price was right, I needed a pair of tyres and so I gave into temptation and ordered some up for the Hornet.
    Results were better than I’d hoped for. The Conti Motions behave impeccably on the road in all conditions from hot and dry to cold and sopping wet, with good grip under braking and stable with progressive steering. They are a distinct improvement on the Contiforce radials.
    So I’ve stuck with them on the Hornet, and I’m more than happy with them as an all-round road tyre. The previous two pairs of Conti Motions on the Hornet have handled twisty roads as fast as I wanted to ride them in the Ardeche last year, coped with mid-summer deluges in Wales, and offered excellent feel in all conditions right into the freezing weather last December.
    The icing on the cake was that they lasted just on 10,000 miles each. Considering that mileage including a fair amount of M25 work, they retained their profile well, and they wore out as a pair.
    Now that’s what I call a sport touring tyre!
    [I got a chance to try them on the track at Castle Combe.] At the end of the first session the Conti Motion on the rear just looked “cleaned” right to the edge of the tread. No marking up of any kind, no balled-up rubber, just no chicken strip left.
    On my return from the second half dozen laps, it was interesting to see that the edges of some of the tread blocks were starting to tear off. Still no balled-up rubber though, the rubber was still nice, clean and smooth, and the bike still handled fine (up to the limits of the suspension).
    On the third and final session, I had a couple of minor twitches from the rear. Whether this was down to me trying to ride a bit faster I’m not sure, but I took the hint and slowed down a touch and completed the session without further drama.
    Looking at the tyre back in the pit area was interesting though; the scrubbed area was still clean and smooth, but it now had a sticky, oily looking deposit on the last couple of mms of the extreme edge of the tyre where I hadn’t scrubbed it over on that particular session. It did cross my mind that it was this oily looking stuff that caused the twitches till I backed off a touch.
    Unfortunately I didn’t have a camera to hand to snap a pic, which would have been useful.
    I’m no tyre expect but I suspect what I was looking at was a tyre beginning to overheat.
    If you’re in the market for a tyre which you don’t have to change every couple of months for a middleweight, do a lot of fairly upright miles in mixed conditions, and can cope with more spirited riding from time to time in the twisties, then the Conti Motions are definitely recommended by me.
    But I’d say they are not a tyre that can cope with the demands of the track, even with a not particularly quick track rider on board! It may well be that if you are very quick on the road, you might find they struggle too."

    Well here is the fecking problem, I can order cheap tyres but everyone wants to charge me £60 for the privilege of fitting them so Im not going to save any money. Blast.

    I'm assuming you're not going to be taking the wheels off yourself? That's not so bad if it includes removing the wheels and mounting the tyres before refitting.

    Well, do you know about the ride in, ride out service at Watling Tyres at Catford?

    Used them for years when I lived in London (though I always took the wheels off myself!).

    Generally if you ask a bike dealer to fit tyres, they'll charge you silly money for the pair in the first place, then workshop prices for the fitting time.

    Why thanks GMF, I ordered the Contis and they have problems getting stock for the rear tyre so the nice man at Stickystuff is giving me Road Pilot 2s, which is what I wanted anyway but they are more expensive, for the same price for my hassle :)

    Man, you can really feel it when your tyres square off, its pants riding at the moment, need me new wheels!
