next problem (whilst on bulb hunt)

my bike is having problems starting...

when starting, it just clicks and doesnt attempt to turn over..

    i have checked the following:

battery level, i have had it on charge all day and its now fully charge
fluid level, its at the full level
    cleaned up battery terminals
spark plus taken out and cleaned

what it does seem to do...

if i sit on the bike and shake it around, it seems to start
once turned off and on again (straight away) it starts

    any ideas on this one?

not sure if i should change the bulbs yet due to this problem?

    thanks again

If it were a car, clicking from starter motor is usually because the battery is low. If you are sure its definitely charged, I would hazard a guess at the solenoids getting stuck. That is backed up by you saying that sometimes shaking it around will sometimes free it.

I`m sure someone else here with more mechanical knowledge will confirm or deny. Skortchio or megawatt would be the people to ask.

Have you disturbed any connectors playing around with the bulbs?
    Check voltage across battery.
    Water/corrosion in/on the ignition switch /starter switch/starter soleniod
    Sidestand cut off switch.

done think i have disturbed any wires, but this also happend thursday night, Before all the bulb bits had been started...

i can check the voltage tomorow, but should be full due to todays charge
starter solenoid, im not sure what this looks like, or where it will be???
sidestand cut off switch? not sure what this is, but dont think i have one as i dont have a sidestand, only centre

having just gone out to the bike, i have found out...

as its a automatic, it needs the front brake held in whilst starting.. however this is not working

however if i hold the back brake in it works... (never thought to try that)

It sounds like a dodgy starter motor solenoid.
Look at the fuse box diagram in the manual (or download one) locate the starter motor solenoid, have a look at it, I had the same issue with my sportster, the solenoid was cracked and dirty. I replaced it for £10 ish,, and all is fine. :D

If voltage drops overnight, battery may be duff (or you have short).
Starter solenoid is attached to the other end of the thick piece of wire attached to the positive(+) terminal of the battery.prob under a panel.
If you dont have a sidestand you wont have switch.
I assume the bike is in neutral when you try to start it but is the neutral light on?

Then look under/ around the front brake lever there may be a dodgy connection/loose/ broken wire.

turns out it may of been the pressure switch on the lever, so that has all been taken off and cleaned up...

    so far so good

Awesome... Just spray some contact cleaner if you have any in the switch... glad you found the problem out ... my 50cc had problems starting turned out it was a dodgy earth connection so you may wanna check that out (my earth was on the carb inlet bolt but may be other places)

My sister used to have an Aprilia Habana :think1: and, like yours, the lever had to be held in to start it. There was a little brake lever switch thing that was forever giving up the ghost so she bought about 12 of them. Which was OK until she ran out of them and BOTH switches packed up at the same time
