New years day turned to rats shite because "dont worry if you cant make it, its nothing special" is actually code for "you really should make every effort to be here" (her side) but we didnt have the code breaking machine!

Spending 2 hours tw@tting about upgrading a computer (with working parts taken from another comp) to find out the motherboard has died. :fume:

Its not a vast prob. I`ve just upgraded mine & was going to replace the guts in Sues with my old parts. Its def died somehow as when I put the old stuff back in it fired up straight away.

If it works with old parts in and not new, then it's not the mobo as that part is consistent. If it were then it wouldn't work regardless of components plugged into it.
If it only doesn't work with the new old parts then it's either one of them is non functional or they're incompatible, certain editions of DDR have the same connector pattern for example but won't work with the wrong bus mobo, same with cpu.

old old doesn't work, new old doesn't work = mobo single related factor, bad mobo.
old old work, new old doesn't work = component failure / incompatibility.

Basically I took my working mobo, cpu, RAM & GFX card out of my machine & put them in Sues & now it won`t boot. PSU is a 700w Modular & the Mobo gets power as the LAN light goes green when a cable is plugged in. Hit the power switch & nothing happens. No fans spin, no drives spin up, so no POST. Put the old mobo, CPU RAM & GFX set up back in & Off it goes. I can eliminate the PSU & case switch by the fact it works with the old gear. I replaced the mobo battery as it known for a low BIOS battery to stop a machine booting. The only logical conclusion is the mobo has died between removing from 1 machine & placing in another as the case fans won`t spin either.

If it doesn't power up then the case fans wouldn't spin :p
Doesn't sound hopeful, only possiblity could be if the mobo is a 24pin and the psu is a 20 pin, it's possible to put it in the wrong 4 pins which would stop if powering up. But if it's not then you may be out of luck, assuming you've cleared the cmos etc. and tried a component by component boot test.
