A little about the viaduct and its construction

"Built in 1841, the Ouse Valley Viaduct (also called Balcombe Viaduct) over the River Ouse is 1,475 feet (450 m) long it is 96 feet (29 m) high and is carried on 37 semi-circular arches, each of 30 feet (9.1 m), surmounted by balustrades. Each pier contains a Jack arch with a semi-circular soffit in order to reduce the number of bricks required. At each end of the abutment there is an ornamental square open tower, the brickwork of which is faced with stone from Heddon Quarries near Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
11 million bricks were needed for its construction and were travelled up the Ouse River (via Newhaven and Lewes) from Holland. It cost £38,500 to build The structure is a Grade II listed building and was restored in 1996 with grants both from the Railway Heritage Trust and English Heritage. Matching stone was imported from France, to ensure a close match to the existing balutrades and pavilions
The viaduct is still used, with around 110 trains a day passing over it on the Brighton Main Line"

as you can clearly see ...standards have dropped over the years and the restoration bricks ar nowhere near a match in colour to the originals but as stated before ...Kudos to the original designers and builders

Waking up as the proud owner of the BumbleBeemer... and then seeing the weather report for the week, knowing that being unemployed I can head out for a ride anytime I like.

Shame it's foggy as hell right now!
