My Daytona has floating discs on the front and apparently they are supposed to have some movement and can also rattle.
I've never heard mine make any noise before or noticed much in the way of movement, but whilst putting the bike away I heard a noise and investigation found excessive movement in 3 of the pressed rivets.
Is it normal for these rivets to come apart?
Anything I can do besides buying new discs?

Hi Dave, It looks like they have too much play, thats my gut feel. I would have assumed if they were meant to have that much play, all the rivet points would have similar movement, but those 3 look pretty loose :(

Is there play in the rotational direction; if not I wouldn't worry? My AP racing discs slap side to side but have zero play in the rotation.

I agree, so long at there's only lateral movement I don't think it's any prob. I'd have thought whatever play there is should be the same in all of them though.

Don't suppose it could be that those without excessive movement are being 'held' by the pads? Even though the brake is off.

Les, It just seems to be 2 extremely loose rivets. I have another pair of discs coming from a 675 owner and then I'll probably take the originals to the places suggested by Alan to get a price for re-riveting before selling one set.

Mine are all seized on one disc. Is there a way to release them?

plenty of brake cleaner and either a bolt with washer and nut on, tighten these up to clamp the rivett and then turn trying to free them. Theres my way which is a hammer and screw driver but a few of the others on here may think thats not the best way :D

Yes mate , tighten a m8 or m10 nut and bolt onto each one, continue turning and bobbin will eventually turn.

Thanks mate! All i get from heavy braking is loads of vibration through the arms! And Hornet; we discussed this at work. I chickened out of the long screwdriver through the holes idea!:)

A bit of a scrub with brake cleaner and a stiff brush helps as well. Have a ride up to Northiam if no luck. Did you sell those bikes.???
