It must be time we brought this back. Each week a member gets to show us the best roads of there local area. Allows us to mix up the rideouts a little more and get some variation into where we go. Only rules is post up a meeting spot, have somewhere for coffee / food at some point and make sure that the pace suits all the riders that turn up.

Who wants to set up the first runs ?

The same as the rideout I organised last year - start at Lenham Services on the M20, take the old A20 down to Charing. Up and over Charing Hill (A252), through Challock and on to Chilham. Cut through Chartham Downs to pick up Stone Street (B2068) and head South down to Sandling and cross the M20 at J11. Stop off at the Airport Cafe before taking the B2067 West, allowing people to either peel off to their own areas or taking the A2070 / A259 to Rye (if absolutely necessary!).

The long range forecast isn't too good for the weekend, so I'll keep tabs on it and make the rideout 'official' once we know what's going on. I'll post a thread on Weds if it's a go-er.

not too bad matey but there are some better roads from hamstreet to appledore or rye if going that way, that avoid using the a2070 which is sooo dull . also if the weather is nice both the camber road from lydd and also the brenzett road are just jammed with cages full of idiots trying to get to camber beach... then those roads are just pointless as its tailbacks for miles....

TBH, I'd have lost interest after the Airport Cafe, so if you'd like to amend, feel free. I don't know the roads down there, so any additions are gratefully received. Puurrrlllllleeeease don't make Rye the centre of the universe - it's such a bloody cliche!

well i was a bit surpised when you added rye in... not a major fan of rye myself , although the butchers there is great... :D . but then its 5 mins away from me .. camber road is ok but only when its quiet . otherwise at this time of year with the weather alot of the roads down here are filled with the old and sunseekers battling it out to get to the seaside... right PITA .

I included Rye as it seems that most people here are obsessed with using it as a hub for rideouts. The suggestion I've posted is about half of last year's rideout as after Hamstreet, it continued up across Tenterden / Rolvenden / Benenden / Goudhurst and back up to Maidstone, therefore skipping Rye & Military Road completely.

Obviously if adding anything to the route, take into account traffic volume / speed cameras / police presense / road surface / visibility / risks etc. All other bits of the route I've shown are pretty good for that kind of thing (although you do tend to get more Police from the Airport Cafe onwards).

i think rye tends to work for those of us based around the area , specially if your heading out towards eastobourne /east sussex area. i must admit generally the furthest north i tend to ride is molash/chilham bends then back again.. never found that many roads past there that i liked but always up for trying out new roads  .

I was joking the other day that the forum should change it's name to the 'Eastbourne, Hastings and Rye Bikers' as pretty much 90% of stuff seems to revolve around there, even though there are members spread across the counties. That's the main reason I've stopped attending rideouts, so it's nice to see that Tom has suggested something new.

had this "discussion" on the other forum.. does kind or rely on those who live in those areas to post/organise/arrange said rideouts. no point those who live this way organising a ridout halfway across the county.however it does seem to be the usuals that post up a ride and they all mostly live this way so its understandable. il tag along wherever, if i think its too far to go then wont go- simple as. i guess its now down to those from "up north" to arrange some more rides then :D but yes i totally agree - very good idea from tom , hopefully will get some more people out of the woodwork

After Airport cafe could go via Pluckly, Smarden Belle, Biddenden, Sissinghurst, Cranbrook, Hawkhurst for second tea stop.

Sounds good to me, although I know none of those roads (which is the best thing about a rideout - learning somewhere new!). In fact, I can't see those Pluckly or Smarden on the map. Once I've found them, I'll add as a route unless there are other suggestions? It'd be good to create a 'collage' route which is made up of people's suggestions... so keep 'em coming.

There aren't many good bike roads in NE Kent that I know & when I go anywhere alone I don't care about sticking to any route. Flexible & travel light is me:thumbsup:. IMO the best roads seem to around Ashford & then heading south. Do most of my summer riding in the week as Deano says, just too many people:rolleyes:.
