Having an accident in the car today because a stupid b*tch in a silver Fiat Punto come screaming straight across the front of my nose on a roundabout.....I took evasive action, even hit the brakes, but it still resulted in hitting her rear drivers door and wheel arch with my passenger side front wing. She then had the audacity to look all smug and say "it is not my fault because you hit me in the rear, doesn't matter how I drove"....so, she could not even suss out what rear and side was ffs! When it was pointed out to her what constituted the rear of her car, she said she had already apologised. (At this point she saw that an explosion was imminent and shut up) Anyhoo, the damage is enough to make my car a write off, more hassle! After speaking to my insurance company, it appears even though this is easily recognised as not my fault, my insurance will go up, even if I don't f*cking claim! However, the adviser did soften the blow by saying "even though it is not your fault, if you claim, your premium will go up even higher"......WHY DO WE BOTHER WITH INSURANCE FFS!!!! :fume::fume::fume:

Because I reported it to my insurance company....it now sits on my records for five years and I have to declare the accident whenever I renew. But adviser did reassure me (PAH!!!) that it is also noted that it was not my fault, well that is really big of him, dontchoo think....NOT!
Leaning towards getting the damn car written off anyway, but then, my insurance will go up even more next renewal. And this was straight from the advisers mouth.

So, you don`t claim & its not your fault but it still goes up? At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask & do his robbery at gunpoint!

In hindsight, I really wish I had not hit the brakes and steered to avoid her

I know what you mean but unfortunately, in a reasonable & sane person, self preservation tends to take over automatically.

Then Kitten Art, change your insurance, your insurance should not go up if you have a no fault claim and your insurance recovered all their losses, if they did not then you should have instructed your insurance to take the 3rd party to court. On another note, pretty well all insurances went up last year overall anyhow, so maybe not a lot is involved in the declaration.
(The policy will go up if renewal over laps claim settlement, but you should get the difference back after claim has been settled in your favour).
It pays on any insurance renewal to contact the insurers and basically lie and say you can get it cheaper they will always knock some off even if it is the admin fee of like £15.00. or keep it as the same price as last year.
Make sure you have a named driver on policy, as long as they are old, no convictions, and no accidents, that reduces policy costs.
Both my Van insurances this week renewal, one I knocked them to keep it the same as last year, the other had no protected no claims as it was a copy of last yrs policy no claims on a new policy, in effect they gave me 9yrs for a new policy, this yr I had to protect it, at 11% increase, they protected it for free, so saved me nr £60-00, rather annoying for me to insure that van £160-00 Per Yr Fully Comp add a 22 yr goes up to nr £600.00. So it pays to contact direct.

On another note regarding insurance, I think this cannot drive for 6 weeks is very debatable, with in reason, i.e. a minor op on a left foot, that after a week or maybe less, so you can walk and clearly drive an automatic in a manor deemed safe, I would think if you had an accident and then took the insurer to court if they refused a payout, and you could prove with out doubt that you were perfectly able to control/drive as if you had not had an op, a car Insurer would lose.
Many groups and Company's write out T & C's does not mean they would stand up in a court of law if clearly unreasonable, and even within the law.

I don't know about minor ops but mine is going to be major surgery. I had a shoulder op in 2010 and couldn't drive for 6 weeks.

Just had the daughters corsa checked out by vauxaull and they have given us a list of stuff ( along with a quote of £700) that needs doing and told her that it shoudnt be driven! The major fault being the timing chain being noisy. The wife had the same thing on her corsa a couple of years ago and was told that the chain being slightly noisy is nothing major to worry about - she drove it for two years with out any trouble! Anyone know of a decent mechanic around Hastings that can give me a second opinion? Thanks :)

The insurance thing.....your premium does go up irrespective of blame, maybe only by a little if you are not at fault, but only some insurance companies are honest enough to say it. That came straight from someone who should know. But yes, I never accept renewal price, always get at least £20 knocked off playing them against each other. Blonde I may be......stupid? only sometimes ;):giggle:

If that was a main dealership quoting, it translates to £350 for any ordinary garage. Can't think of any garage in Hastings not out to rip you off, but in Rye there is one, think it is called Rye MOT Centre on the industrial estate....biker owns it. Guzzirob can give you more details, he was the one impressed with how the owner conducted his business

Mate of mine works in Guestling garage, his name is Greg. Might be worth asking him, he does all my vehicles. Or if you want I can give him a bell and see if he can have a look at it after work for you.

Does not matter if deemed minor or major, if the doctor has clearly stated no driving, your insurance is null and void. The end. It is ridiculous to even think a layman can prove themselves more knowledgeable than the doctor. You would not have a leg to stand on if you had an accident....(har har....a leg to stand on....get it?)

Sorry Kitten Art, we can beg to differ on that one, Doctors like most people who have responsibility tend to take the way overall cautious one, does not mean it is right.
