The only witness was the passenger who is my daughters client. So details have been given to the police.

The only thing is there appears to be little or no damage to the daughters car which kind of leaves her in a bit of predicament! Report it to the insuarance company and risk losing the no claims discount she has built up even if no claim is actually followed up on (yes they do things like that theses days) on the basis that the passenger could claim against the daughter for whiplash. Or just leave it for now and see what happens!

What car is it and really stupid question but do the buttons do anything other than open the central locking? Depending on this then there could be alternatives?

Silly question but you sure its not just the battery that needs replacing or the contacts cleaning? A lot (but not all) of keyfobs use CR2032 button cells which you can get from a computer supplies shop (They are the same as computer mother boards use) & are usually only about 2 or 3 quid a piece. Get a replacement fob (Note: When obtaining replacement key fobs ensure that the frequency is correct, UK cars require a 433 MHz transponder US and some European vehicle will require 315 MHz transponders) & then program it yourself with THIS procedure. Job done & money saved.

Keep up at the back lad! ;) I fell foul of that once myself when my old Omega wouldn`t unlock & that turned out to be a dead cell.
