Spending nearly 3 hours doing a 10 min job! Had an O2 sensor eliminator turn up today so decided to fit it so it didn`t get lost. Got 2 of the 3 cover bolts out no problem but the third decided to round off on me, spent best part of half an hour looking for my easy outs, couldn`t find them so had to go out to get some more. Got home & drilled the bolt but it was between 2 sizes so decided to make a slightly bigger hole to use the bigger one. In drilling this one the tip of the bit snagged & snapped off in the bolt  So thought it best to stop for half hour to have a cigar & a brew.

After a bit of swearing & prodding I got the broken bit out, found another drill bit & had another go. This bit decided to bind up too but I managed to catch it before it snapped so put the drill in reverse & guess what? The bit came out with the bolt still on the end. I then spent nearly 20 mins getting the bolt off the end of the drill bit as it was stuck fast & I wasn`t prepared to break another one. After getting the job done & was putting everything away, I then found my original set of easy outs so I spent £13 on something I didn`t really need.

But now you have spares, you'll never, ever break one again. It's like having an umbrella to reduce the possibility of rain! Have you given up on that silly idea of clearing the garage?

This is true but its given me a greater need to clear it as who knows what else I`ve got squirrelled away in there.

So pi$$ed off!! The new 2010 BMW S1000RR that we bought Joe last week....

He noted that it was going into a 'false neutral' randomly in some gears, so he asked 3 BMW dealers if they were aware of this problem. They of course said no. Joe researched on the net to find that there are LOTS of complaints on forums etc of gears grinding when the bike goes into 'false neutral'. He approached BMW again, who said they know of no problem and will not fix it or enquire further.

He drained the oil to see if there was any metal shard from the gears rubbing and it was nothing like I had ever seen before! Plug completely covered in metal shards (almost up to a 1cm long at times).

BMW was their hands of it. Warranty is only 2 years which expired 4 months ago. We're worried that the gear box may cease/blow up/malfunction/throw him off. So he's owned it for 10 days and we are re selling it. Hubby is very unhappy (wife is too!). $20,000 down the drain :furious::cry::furious::cry::furious: :furious:

Is it BMW Oz that dont recognise that there is an issue? Have you tried BMW head office?

Did you buy it with any sort of warranty or was it private? Even if the latter, you could try sending a solicitor's letter to the seller indicating he has sold a machine which is not fit for purpose and you want to give it back in exchange for a full refund. (ps - I have no idea of Australian Law, but I expect there is something similar).

Try posting on some of the BMW websites asking what remedies people have sought, both legal (as above) and practical - eg 'adjust the hoodekky beside the grommet warbler'. Frankly a 2-year old machine shouldn't be throwing neutrals if it is correctly adjusted and has had a service or two - especially a BMW!

It is not a good idea to sell it on right now: (i) you'll be forever worried that the new owner will take matters into his own hands if he reckons he's been sold a pup (ii) anyone inspecting it will like the gleam of the paintwork but not the answer to the question 'How long have you had it' and (iii) if you knowingly sell something on which is, er, duff then I have a feeling that might start venturing into the area of fraud - certainly a voidable contract. Right now, though, you have all the force of the Law on your side. Use it.

What a nightmare for you both Yappa. Hopefully you can find a way to get BMW to do something.

Latest: BMW said too bad, too sad. Joe's done an oil change x2 this weekend, so sump plug looks cleaner. Spoke with the po-po, no liability to sell as is, if we sell stating as is. So he's put the ad up on the sales websites, and will hopefully hit a few 'normal' dealers next weekend (not this weekend due to my dirty bday weekend away!!!). He was hesitant to speak further with the BMW dealers as we'll need to sell it back, and he doesn't to put them off. Rang the seller - he wasn't interested. Although he stated that it had up-to-date servicing and we can't find any record with the bike or with BMW!! Had to fork out money with tax so all out we'll be about $1000-$2000 down :( He's started looking at 2012 Blades so he can still do his booked track days :( :( :(

It's probably the quickshifter that's damaging the gearbox. If it's set up wrong, the box will suffer. BMW know what's going on.
