Never having been....We fancy spending maybe a week doing Scotland by car in a few weeks time. Just wondered if anyone knew of a general area worth heading for. We'd take a small tent should the weather be suitable & can't find B & Bs but would like somewhere scenic, remote & a bit off the beaten track.

Do some island hopping in the western isles. Me and Lindsey did it a few years ago! Isle of Arran is stunning...

"somewhere scenic, remote & a bit off the beaten track" My Son and his friend spent New Years eve in a hut at the top of Ben Nevis, just a suggestion :giggle:

If you get this far up, Inverness to Wick and across to Thurso is brilliant, as is the run down from Inverness to Fort William

Highlands and Edinburgh are worth a visit, avoid Glasgow and the West coast.

Quite by chance, last night I caught the final ten minutes of a Henry Cole "Greatest Motorcycle Rides" in which he was riding around Bonny Scotland - you might try a TV catchup service or YouTube, perhaps? And keep an eye for dragons!

We stayed on the island if Seil last year. Good places to eat and drink and fantastic boat trips. The one we went on was Sealife Adventures. As it's connected to the mainland by a pretty bridge, makes a decent base. Inverrary recommended, but I gather the whole west coast is stunning.

The November issue (I kid you not) of Ride has a 2 x double page spread about a Suzuki Burgman touring Scotland. It's mostly about the ...er, 'bike'. But there are general descriptions of some routes and places the rider stayed. PM me your email and I can relay the information (unless you are a subscriber already). It was one of the best things the writer has ever done in his life. He claims he did come back... :)

Hey Richard. Thanks for that  & I'll buy a copy. First we're off to French Alps then Andorra/Pyrenees sadly also by car, albeit a soft top.
