im still alive an kickin ...well just....it appears age is trying to tell me something....cant ride at the moment following a diagnosis of Cervical spondylosis which is wear and tear of vertibrae and discs in the neck causing ...well lets say its not pleasant. there is no cure and its only ever going to get worse, but accupuncture apparently helps ease the symptoms ( im sceptical but ready to try anything) it has also in turn created a tennis elbow like pain in my left arm ( deep joy) ...so just these two alone make riding a bit awkward, but add to that nearly falling into the inspection pit in my garage while clearing up after fitting a new roof and only preventing the fall by reaching across my body with my right arm to grab a cabinet then hearing a loud pop which has now been diagnosed as a ruptured muscle and is extremely painful at times, then youll understand why i currently am spending most of my time tinkering with my little zxr 400 which has been off the road for the best part of 2+ years.....panels are going to be resprayed and carbs have gummed up blah blah blah.
Sorry ive not been on here much but sitting at the puter does seem to irritate the neck and so eben thats been reduced. ill try and post more and maybe once things fell better get out for a few short rides.

    chill out an stay cool

That sounds like a real pain. hopefully having hundreds of needles stabbed into various body parts will make life a little easier

The 400 would make a great track bike :D maybe 6 to 8 20 minute rides would cause less pain than one long ride out

lol its done 2 days at brands indy circuit where it was running around 1 minute 2 secs a lap and giving the litre bikes a hard time in the corners alas i dont think it has too much more to give and a comment from the its last outing of "awesome to hear a 400 sounding as if it was giving every last ounce to keep with the bigger bikes down the straights"

Man up you pussy. You don't hear me complaining and I'm much older than you!

Seriously Pete, very sorry to hear this from one of my favourite riding buddies:(. I have quite a lot of pain in my neck at times and, like you, it is simply worn out. It hurts like hell if I move and hurts even more if I don't, so I move.

Riding my bike helps as I'm so :eek: most of the time I forget about the pain!

in all honesty if it was just the neck i could probably grin and bear it but the ruptured muscle is a different matter ...when i tweak that wrongly it hurts like f*ck and im afraid that would cause me to react on the bike and end up crashing, that may nnot just effect me it may have an impact on other

Firstly, just wanted to say I like the picture. And also, without going into detail, I have spent some time learning a lot about pain control over the last few years. If there is no hope of any improvement in your condition you might like to have a read up on the Alexander Technique. It may sound very happy clappy and I was extremely sceptical to start with but I changed my mind a few weeks into the course and wish I'd learnt it years ago.
I was going to pm you, but I haven't a clue how to. If you want to know more, just ask.

    so...update

the right shoulder is healing ...slowly but it is healing, which is a surprise as i havnt exactly been resting it due to work ect
the left elbow comes and goes but has become bearable even at its worst, physio says it learning that its not injured and is begining to relax... hmmmm yeah ok
as for the neck , accupuncture didnt impress me and the physio has said it doesnt work for everyone and has refered me back to my GP for further investigation, pain is under control with drugs to the point where its like the elbow" bearable " and i am learning the trigger events and how to avoid them. this has allowed me to continue with the 400 project which youll find covered in another thread.

    seasonal wishes to all
    peace

Glad things are settling down Pete. Acupuncture is a bit "Hit & miss", Sue is one of the lucky ones who does get relief from it. As you say, knowing the triggers is a BIG help in avoiding things getting worse. Hopefully early 2014 will see a marked improvement & allow you a good season riding.
