that's thier problem, they was not a "general greasy spoon" they were a "bikers greasy spoon", so busy when the weather was nice on a wednesday night or a sunday, the other 300 days a year they'd be stood around scratching thier bollox

not sure how much buiness acumen they have with desicions like that? and announcing thier closure on social media whilst they are still trying to sell the leasehold and large part of the value of the leasehold will be thier customer base (who all now know its closing) ????

if I were dead id be turning in my grave and I know my father probably is......when did we as the biking (motorcyclist or whatever you refer yourself to) fraternity start worrying whether the tea is da f*cking jeeling or if the pastry round the pies were puff.....or even if the establishment had some dolly bird to bring your cream tea and scones .....since when did a queue matter .....we only have to look at The Ace café to see what a real bikers meet was like and to some extent still is, its about a group of like minded people meeting up , standing about admiring each others machines or criticising them whilst drinking a hot liquid that was described on a menu board as tea and necking down a ball of meat filled dough that someone said was a pie they didn't care about queues, they more or less welcomed them, it gave them an opportunity to have a chat with the guy/girl next to them and set the world to rights ...talk utter B*ll*cks if need be it didn't matter ...you rode 2 wheels with an engine you were a family ....Chelsea bridge ..gone...Blackheath teahut ....rarely used ..... and plenty plenty more too have disappeared ..why? is it because the average age of the motorcyclist has risen and as matured adults they now prefer the finer things in life ( what a load of Sh*te ) is it because the world has gone health and safety mad and now the younger generation who ride up and down showing off at the venues are less acceptable than the triumphs, the nortons the vincents, the ariels etc etc etc of yesteryear because they too used to tear up and down ....and it has to be said ...( and yes im guilty of it ) back in the day it didn't matter if it was raining a bike meet was exactly that ...a bike meet ....everyone arrived on their bikes, they didn't lift their skirts and run for the car. Are we really going that soft?

Well said Carnage, I could not of put it better. There are getting fewer and fewer places where large groups bikers can meet up for a good old chat, most go for the social side, not for a 4 star waitress service food.

No Carnage, you hit it right first time the average age of a motor biker is 50, and we do now care about the finer things in life, times change, and establishments have to change with it. and for me it is nothing to do with health and safety, it is more to do with time and how little I have of it to ride my bike.
I also think the Biker as we know it now can be a banker, or a toilet cleaner not like back in the days you are talking about.
LATE is right they were too biker orientated, where as Wessons caters for all, and has all walks of life in there everyday, Imagine back in the 50's / 60's letting a gaggle of Lyrca clad cyclists into a Bikers Cafe :)

ill ride from Walderslade and take a seat at the Blackheath pie stand in the rain among 20 other riders against a slice of cake and a cup of cappuchino at some modern gaff surrounded by people talking about how little Quentin has passed his exams and is going to college to study economics any day.....guess im still rough round the edges eh

as for the lycra clad cyclists they are welcome to any venue as far as im concerned ...cos if they are there it means they are not on the road riding 3 abreast round narrow country lanes

greed and costs of put up rent and taxes so high many small cafes can't afford to open whereas the chains like costa's and Mccy D's can afford the higher rents and they never have to pay taxes . Most of the places that have shunt are still the busy places where you could find like minded people on mass enjoying whatever slop is served. Notice we may all moan about the crap service / food / prices but we all still went ( bikers just like to moan whenever they aren't riding and that has come with the average age creeping up ). :old::old::old::old::old::old::old::old::old::old::old:

Sad that it is closing, how often of those on here saying its sad, use/used it regularly? Like others have said i've been there during the week and i was the only person in there, always an omen of what's going to happen!

Carnage i always thought you were of the JRTFT club? Rather than standing around talking a good ride! :)
