I have nice neighbours. When I sold my Harley some of them complained. They had to start looking at their clocks and watches in the morning. Apparently, due to my compulsive timekeeping I was no longer any good as a mobile alarm clock.

oh dear itv have had to remove the story after too many complaints

Following a campaign by MAG activists, ITV has pulled a news article that mis-represented riders. The news item was supposed to highlight a victory for residents of a village in Wales who were fed-up with noisy bikes. Instead of reporting the matter in a balanced fashion, the report used sensationalist language and a photograph believed to be of bikers attending a funeral in Germany.

ITV News Cymru Wales have apologised for the feature and have arranged for the article to be removed. You may notice that the link below now comes up with an error message. Well done to everyone who emailed and wrote to ITV.

One such reply was received by Jane Carrott, MAG's National Rep's Liaison Officer.

    ---
    Dear Jane Carrott,

My thanks for getting in touch regarding the article which appeared on our website.

I have looked into the background of this article which was supplied to us by a large Welsh-based news agency and published in good faith.

I understand your concern about some of the words used in the article and the accompanying picture.

The picture was supplied by the Press Association as what is often called a 'stock shot'. Looking at the number plates, it seems to have be taken in Germany and no claim is made that it was in Monmouthshire. But given what I have said about the wording, I have arranged for the photograph and the article to be removed.

ITV News does not seek to be sensationalist - but rather to report the facts in a fair and engaging style. I am sorry that this did not appear to be the case on this occasion and thank you once more for raising the issue.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Andy Collinson

Perceptions like the ones in the article need to be broken straight away. News media is now taking notice of MAG – the true (loud) voice of biking.
