Google, google has made me smile!!! In this technology driven age it is so important to get a decent google ranking for your companies website.

Having had an I.T. background for the last 25 years I decided that I would write our new companies website. I have really immersed myself in to what is called SEO. To those that don't know, it stands for Search Engine Optimisation. In short, how to make google or any other popular search engine like your website enough to put it on the first few pages.

If any of you are like me then you probably don't go past the 3rd page of any google search so I have really taken this challenge head on.

Well, after weeks, if not months of fine tuning the parameters of the website, the code and other odds and sods I finally got a first page ranking!!!!!!!!!!!!! To me this is like winning Olympic gold!!!

I have hit the first page on three of my keyword searches and page two on the fourth keyword search.

Google works on an incredibly complex set of algorithms that is continually changing, it is almost an artificial intelligence in the way it works so I don't expect this to last and will be a constant battle to hold this ranking but for the next day or so I will be a happy bunny:whoo:

You could just give them a back hander :)
It is important though to update the website on a regular basis, this does help a lot to keep it up there.

When I was doing a lot of photography, and uploading to my main brettbutler.co.uk site, and flickr etc. just googling my name I was in the top first 5 listings, the only other person above me was Brett Butler the actress :(

I also have a sitemap that lets the search engines know I update on a daily basis. It really is a lottery though as google, yahoo and bing really do tweak these algorithms all the time.

It has dropped a few pages today in google so I am playing around with the title and keyword structure, but in bing and yahoo it is sitting on page one.

The other HUGE issue is that the search engines taylor the search results based on your current (and previous) search requests so they can be very different results for two different people who regularly search for different things. So where I have been searching for specific things for my business I am, to a certain extent skewing my own search results.

Royal pain in the ar$e and it is a constant battle. You can almost overthink things but I am going to call it a day as of today for major updates and will let the search engines settle on the current content so I can analyse the current behaviour over the next week and then crack on again.

I really have had enough of this though :hah:

Did a bit more getting used to the bike again. That's two days in a row now. It was great weather, too. I really, truly did laugh aloud, just for the joy of it and even caught myself woohooing a couple of times. I knew nobody was going to hear me over those nice loud pipes :) I'm almost looking forward to getting back to work next week, just for the commute. Almost.

Really pleased that your recovery is going so well:disco:

I haven't even started my bikes for months. Last time the blade went out was maybe September, could be august, I forget and the TZR was used to get me to and from the van sign writers in December but that has also been the only time in maybe five months. I REALLY need to get out on a bike soon. Let me know if you guys are out and about at any point this weekend.

Travelling southbound on the A21 tonight reaching the bit by the A26 (I think?) and there is now a sign up telling us about the new dual carriageway that is due for completion in December 2016 (that bit stinks because it means chaos will continue for another two years), the new PeNbury dual carriageway :)

Have pity upon those of us who live in Tunbridge Wells and who take 20 minutes just to be able to join the fun 'n games on the soon-to-be-dualled A-21! There are traffic lights on it now, for Heaven's sake!
