I rode with a new rider today who needs help. Not impressed with the training he has received. He was taught to ride down the centre of his side of the road, where all the loose granite chippings are and needless to say, he has had a few problems. If anyone can spare the time to ride with him at 125 speeds and give him some pointers, I'm sure he will be very grateful. As you know I have a lot of work to do in next two weeks and haven't got much time myself. He is unemployed and is available most days. Any help gratefully received.

To be honest Alan the cbt training is pretty dismal. I think you'd have to be pretty darn miserable to fail it. Best advice I could give to the guy is to get some real training in with a school and on the way to his full licence. Channel riding treated me well, I was a pretty fast learner but they started off gentle. They have been going for a long time

He can't afford any more training Joe. I was hoping some of our members could ride with him and give him some pointers. He did his CBT with Diversity in Ashford. For some strange reason they told him to ride down the middle of his lane, where all the loose gravel is.

I was Also taught to stick in the middle.. Never really made sense in my head, so snapped straight out of it and watched a few you tube videos...

I think they teach this on CBT (as I was also taught the same) as it keeps you equidistant from oncoming traffic and nearside junctions. It also gives you a commanding road position.

Provided he's willing to go out on a Sunday, I'm more than happy to go for a mellow humble.

It also puts you in the middle of recently laid granite chippings and any slippy stuff leaked out of cars and lorries. Thanks for the offers Leila and Paul. Will be in touch.

I agree but you need to have a full licence first. This guy Alan is asking for help me with only has his provisional judging by the previous posts.

Bike safe course? Do you have any more details on this please... Might be worth creating a new post, as not heard or seen this before.

    Thanks

Was it just the riding position he had trouble with? What else is he struggling on?
