Polishing equipment / tools needed

Following Scorchio's advice, does anyone here have either a DA or Orbital polisher that I could borrow?? It'd be handy to cut & polish the lacquer on the bike (esp since the 2K I've applied is hard as nails), so I'd likely need it for a weekend.

    I don't have a compressor, so it'll need to be a 240V.

    Thanks in advance!

i have a compressor, might even be able to lay my hands on a da if my brother in law still has it... only issue with the compressor is that i need to repair the hose as i noticed the other day it had perished... il ask him later

im guessing you rattle canned those panesl rather than use compressor and gun?

Interestingly, I have an air DA polisher and hose but you can't use my compressor (needs a service as it's not holding pressure well).

As a last resort you could use a hand drill on lowest speed setting with a polishing mop on the end, in place of an orbital polisher.

Yep, all rattle-can. I'm really pleased with the results so far... but the lacquering is a right pain in the arse. Still, my office at home is making a handy area for the panels to dry (seeing as they seem to need a few days. Bloody 2K!).

Thanks for the offer of the compressor etc, but it's looking more like I'll need to either buy an Oribital polisher, or hire a DA from Roll Up and Shine (http://www.rollupandshine.com/meguiars-g220-dual-action-polishing-machine-for-hire-139-p.asp) - a good tip from Scortchio!

    With a K! :p
Also, at least 2 weekends for £30 sounds a cracking deal to me. Assuming they have it available in good time.

    Oooh.... oK!

I just called and left a voicemail for her to get back to me. I don't know how many machines they've got though. No rush as I've still got plenty of spraying to do and it'll all need a looooong time to set before I set upon it with a polisher.

Looking at that link for the DA, you still need to provide the pads and polish though....

Yes I do... and that's another £50 or so for consumables. Thinking that maybe I'll use a polishing adapter for my drill instead and spend more on heads and pastes.

    What a drag!

Don't go with one of them, they're not well suited to bikes as they're massive mop head. The speed is insane also, I bought one ages ago and gave it to my brother as it was useless for my application. That said, you should be able to pick up a couple of mops for way less than £50 if you choose to hire one.

The mops are about £9 each (I need two of them), plus two different cutting / polishing compounds.

Still, I guess that also means that the cars will be nice and shiny too!
