After Amancalledrob posted his good idea I thought about doing this but sooner, like in the next few weeks. No dates set yet so once a Friday morning to depart is chosen...M4 to Newport which is 170 miles so about 3 hrs. Then going north using smaller roads for the remaining 170 miles to Snowdonia Park, which'll take longer but be far more fun. Staying 2 nights at somewhere like The Vagabond at £20 a night b&b & walking some hills (Mt Snowdon?) on the Saturday. Leave Sunday am on reverse route. Rob, hope you didn't mind this as I'll still do the trip in May.

I'd be a definite possibility. A short weekend away sounds fab... and even better if you know of somewhere to stay.

It was Reese who suggested the Vagabond, I just googled it & it seems ok. I'll await further interest & check the forecast but the only weekend I can't do is 10/11th March.

    That weekend's a no-go for me too.

I just called the Vagabond hostel & was told they have vacancies for most weekends & once there, can advise on suitable routes to walk according to capability, weather & clothing. I didn't plan doing anything too extreme as my tankbag & small rucksack won't hold much besides boots, lightweight jacket, trousers & small stuff anyway.

... and your hairdrier probably takes up quite a lot of space.

My oldest lad Jeff, says he'll come along but doesn't like the idea of the walking part so will amuse himself on the N Wales roads on Saturday with anyone else not fancying the hills.

Good route .... Head up the Wye Valley (A470) to Builth Wells (Crossgates Garage is a Biker Cafe ( A44 Junction) ) and then A5.
Or come off the M4 at Gloucester the up the A49 Hereford. Shrewsbury than A5

I'm driving up to Telford on Friday for another Forum social get together. I'll be taking my bike on a trailer and don't mind carrying peoples gear as far as Telford/Shrewsbury. If this is any help to anyone , just say???:)

I wont be able to make it but I do have a couple of oxford throw over paniers that can hold quite a bit in them. It saves having a back breaking ruck sack!

I went M4 to Cardiff and then took the A470 all the way up and loved it!

So far there are 4 of us interested in this; Finchy, Stevie B, (my son) Jeff & me. Jeff & I are ok for most Fridays/weekends so if I suggest these dates maybe Finchy, Steve or anyone else wanting to come can whittle it down to whatever suits you. (1) 16-18th March. (2) 23rd-25th Mar. (3) 30th-1st April. (4) 6th-8th Apr. (5) 13-15th Apr. Once a date is agreed I'll call the Vagabond & see if they've still got vacs. Just have to take a chance re weather as it is Wales & nothing is certain.

Funnily enough me and a mate are going away 23rd - 26th March (destination and even direction undecided)...If it does end up being that weekend that you guys decide then maybe something might work :). I'll keep an eye on the thread and speak to my mate PJ in the meantime anyway.

I'm easy for any date really... although the weekend of 6th-8th April sounds good as it's my 40th b'day. Couldn't think of anything better than acting like an irresposible loon in Wales for a weekend. I a new set of tyres anyway, so that should just about kill them.

Having said that, the weekend of the 6th ~ 8th spans a double Bank Holiday, so the roads will likely be busy. So maybe that's not such a good weekend after all.

Therefore the weekend of 23rd ~ 25th March gets my vote.

    Hi Guys,

Just spoken to my mate PJ and unbeknown to me he has his heart set on going to the Yorkshire Dales & Moors as he has been promising himself to go back there since he went before. I also think he was put off by the 170 mile blat down the M4 which is never nice (although sometimes necessary).

Long story short, I think we'll swerve this tour and maybe try to catch you again another time.

Hopefully see you soon though for a few 1 day rideouts just like we had yesterday as that was fun:).

    Enjoy boys and stay safe.

I'm still open for a confirmed weekend, so let me know. Other half fancies tagging along, but she'll drive and bring the dog... so if anyone wants to load their bags into the car instead of lugging them on the bike, that's no problem.
