have a 55 plate for work the version with smallest engine. not a bad van to drive but not so great with a bike in even though im sure my work gear ways more.
only real problem has been a converter that protects the gear box if you pull away hard and bloody expensive

I know they can have weak clutches, unless it's the flywheel/auto box torque converter you mean which, from what I read can also be an occasional prob.

because the gearbox is made so light they have something to smooth out the transmission may be on the clutch but pricey

used to drive all models of transporter and the last was the T130 2.5 litre diesel.
pulled like a train, never had any issues as long as the fuel filter was replaced at regular service intervals, ran one of the older 888 specials to well over 200,000 miles and even then it was rebuilt with a re-con head and was running fine and sold on.

i would take any transporter over a transit or sprinter anyday especially one with a 2.5l mill

Have you considered the Vauxhall Vivaro/Renault Trafic/Nissan Primastar (all the same van), I have had 3, and know of lots on our fleet, all with no problems

Merc Vito 122,, will certainly have all the crockery on the floor when you want to leave everything standing at the lights :), Auto 220 Brake, though I do suspect they are a lower roof height, though again you can get them with a raised roof, rare I bet 2nd hand.
