Has anyone else heard this term? According to the website all bikers are aware of this term. Is it just me?

never heard of it or them, they sound like the usual bunch who comment "be better with a helmet" when somebody puts a pic up, mind your own fu$%^ng business and get on with your life. :htlr:

I've always used the term Squid. It describes those types (usually Yanks) that ride around on sports bikes (usually Gixxers) often stunting whilst dressed in inappropriate gear, commonly Hoodies,Long Shorts and Trainers.

not heard them called that before. Wonder why it's squids ?

as long as someone has the experiance to know how much it's going to hurt coming off it's up to them what they wear. It only when i see a rider with all the gear and a pillion with none i get pissed off.

Possibly what they look like when their arms and legs are flailing around when they fly off the bike....?

This is the description given in The Urban Dictionary.

    1. Squid
A young motorcyclist who overestimates his abilities, boasts of his riding skills when in reality he has none. Squid bikes are usually decorated with chrome and various anodized bits. Rear tyres are too wide for their own good, swingarm extended. Really slow in the corners, and sudden bursts of acceleration when a straight appears. Squids wear no protection, deeming themselves invincible. This fact compounds intself with the fact that they engage in 'extreem riding'--performing wheelies and stoppies in public areas. Squids wreck alot. Derived from 'squirly kid'

I was going to write something about, "Ho, ho; they'll soon be removed from the gene pool", but many of today's top racers admit to having roared around on poorly-maintained bikes when they were young 'uns wearing whatever they happened to have put on that morning. The latest fellow to admit this was John McGuinness during a recent TV series. Yet a more controlled rider over that incredibly dangerous course it is hard to imagine. Perhaps it is that (i) he did (does) actually have talent - in contrast with most who loon about and (ii) when he ran out of talent when young and not knowing any better, he didn't damage himself too badly.

    I disagree

My girlfriend relies on me to help out with the bills. If I'm unable to work or even look after the house because I've smeared myself all over the A21 and then say 'I knew it would hurt, it's up to me whether or not I put gear on' she'd be livid, and with good reason

so it's your choice, simples. if you don't wear the gear then you get ear ache but still your choice and you still know what the outcome will be. It's no different to if someone wants to eat fast food, smoke, drink etc they all kill you but it's a personal choice. However forcing a child to smoke a crack pipe while it kicks back a bottle of jack daniels when it doesn't know the harm is the same differance.

I guess in that regard I see your point and I agree with it, but I do think it's important to distinguish between 'it's my choice' and 'it only affects me' - having thought about it I see now that the second statement isn't the one you were upholding :worthy2:

:D but if you always listened to other you wouldn't ride a bike full stop, all we ever hear is how dangerous it is

i looked into squidding and found a cracking youtube video where a guy gave his views and i had to say i thik he has it spot on.

A squid is someone who wears the wrong gear for what they are doing. ie taking a sports bike and pushing it's or oneself limits on a mountain road in just shorts and a t shirt.

not sure why i care i always wear my gear but just like to know i have a choice :D

The logic being failing to pop a wheelie for the camera :/

I think he did manage to get the wheel up, on a weird angle, then realised, s*^t I might be going to fast, answer is not to swerve or weave or use emergency braking - let's lay it down!

i think he had just picked up his brand new bike having just passed his test. a few comments seamed to blame the dealer for letting a new rider take out a sports bike wearing shorts and a short.

I couldn't help cringeing for him - that must've hurt. I came off a pushbike at 30mph+ once and it wasn't pretty. Had to ride two miles to hospital :(
