Hi Peeps lack of discussed items on the Forum methinks, could the weather be the problem. We all suddenly come to life when the sun's got it's hat on.

How about this .. please discuss.
Why do manufactures use unbraided hoses for their brake/clutch lines, when, braided hoses are clearly superior?
Refitted my front brake and clutch lines when I changed to a high set of bars. The difference was amazing. True the old hoses were over 10 years old, although the bike has only done 20k.

Is it a cost issue? Surely not, because bulk buying by the marques must keep the cost lower than us laymen consumers.

Not all bikes come with rubber hoses, my bimmer has braided hoses from the factory. I would have said cost is the major reason, that they're not standard on more bikes.

My Raptor had braided hoses as standard, but then it is a superior bike :).
What would all those third party suppliers sell if everything was fitted?

The thing I`ve noticed all the above bikes have in common? Sports bikes. (assuming Jimbo is talking about a cagiva) I also believe its a cost issue & people will happily pay a premium for something sporty.

it's not just down to cost, alot of people like to modify their bikes so some manufactors leave room for improvement.

Braided lines vs. 10 year old rubber lines is hardly an accurate comparison.

I'd challenge anyone short of Magnus Ver Magnusson and David Banner on the bad day to flex a new set of rubber lines in a braking test.

Rubber lines are cheaper, generally the higher production numbers of a model / manufacturer the lower the cost per cross model parts.
BMW, Triumph and the more 'superior' Cagiva's are built in far smaller numbers than blue and white Gixxers.

Out Of Interest, Would there be any advantage having Braided Hoses on my 14yr Old VFR with 16000 Miles on the clock?

The advice would be that fresh ones would yield and benefit, but if they're not losing pressure under hard braking then seems they're up to the job at hand.

Brake fluid is caustic stuff, over many years it will break down the lining of the brake hose meaning that when you squeeze the lever it's easier for the line to stretch and expand than push the caliper piston out and against the disc.
It's rarely visible by the way, it's not like it will balloon out :p
