Basically wanted if anyone had any first hand knowledge of the bike. A 2006 model has come up for sale and wandered if it was a good upgrade to my 1998 kawasaki zx9r. Nothing so far has made me feel like it was worth changing to (obviously price has a lot to with it, be a different ball park otherwise lol). But I hadn't really thought of one before and haven't heard much about them. Thanks Tony.

I haven't had one but it's one of those bikes I've always loved the look of. Two people i know have had them and loved them but can't say what, if any, issues they had with them. Not much help I know. But they are good looking bikes lol

I had a RSV4 which is close and it was a fantastic bike.

Looked lovely, handled beautifully, and more than enough power (in my incompetent hands).
But, I found it uncomfortable. Position too extreme for me which is why I've needed up with a ZZR1400.

I can't see you having an issue with that coming from a ZX9R. Especially if your knees are younger than mine.
As always these things are subjective, so there's only one way you will find out!

I very nearly bought one of these back in 2004

I put down a £5500 deposit on a black one, even though the shop (Brands Hatch Performance) with the intention of having a year of riding before paying the balance over the 2nd & 3rd year of ownership, interest free. But after waiting 5 months for the bike & having arranged everything from my side, the bike still didn't arrive. I could've had a silver or red one, which the shop had in stock, but my heart was with the black one, which was very popular. But in the end I got fed up with waiting & so cancelled my order & asked for my deposit back. (This was a good thing as the bike shop went under not long afterwards.)

Then I had a phone call from Paul at Aprilia UK asking me to not cancel my order, because he was obviously not going to get his cut if the bike wasn't bought. But i'd had enough. It was at this time that I heard of all the warranty claims that wern't approved, the dodgy spares availability, the shops that did dodgy work, the shops that did better with customer relations than others etc etc.

Then I had a go on a friend's RSV-R & hated it. I'm 5'10" & the seat was very sharp on the inside leg when I put either both feet on the ground or one side at a time.

I have heard of problems with the rear master cylinder, with it being so close to the engine & how it faeds with heat affecting the brake fluid.
Electrics are another problem....but then it's made in Italy. 'Nuff said

    Lovely looking bike though

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It's funny how there seems to be two sides to the story with the reliability, ride and comfort of the aprilia, not just from this page but from speaking to others. I think as it would be more than just an extra weekend toy I have decided to pass on it...... This time lol
