so my 17 year old giant wants a bike for collage. We’ve seen a 16 plate keeway tx with only 450 miles in very good condition and never ridden in the wet.

So we did some insurance quotes, usual compare sites and bike insurers and specialist young rider. First quote from bennets £5972!!! I mean really!!! Cheapest is £610 tp only.

Anyone had experience with young rider insurance? Bike value £1300

That is just criminal, I can’t remember what I paid for my 50cc back in the day but can be sure it wasn’t that much ...

ha ha I can it was £20-00 Fully Comp a year for my New Fizzy

TBH Wayne it would not surprise me. who do you insure your car with, or try some multi bike that take the most expensive bike etc. and the rest is cheaper.

No wonder people who ride bikes get older and seeing a young rider is becoming a bit unusual. My first wreck of a bike cost £11 and the first years insurance was £11, third party only. There's often better insurance deals through owners clubs but I really have no idea if one exists for Keeway owners. Good luck with the search for something cheaper.

Maybe a bike-safe course, or similar might bring it down by a few pounds?

I think you have to have a full licence to do bike safe though Tony :( I suppose the "similar" would be to take the full test but at 17, that means going through it 3 times at 2 years apart to get a full cat A these days.

I would try a different bike first something more well known, Honda Yamaha etc as often more common bikes are easier and cheaper to repair the insurance cost should be less .

but pretty sure my Fizzy was something like £36 a year

Actually I think mine was not £20-00 it was £10-00 still.

tbh I do not see anything being a hell of a lot cheaper,

They say it’s expensive because of his age and it’s a stealable bike along with peds etc. Thanks though. Think we just gonna have to suck it up.

Not an awful lot you can do other than shop around and suck it up. My eldest boy got his first bike, a Suzuki ts50x last November and it cost around £600.
He has recently started college and uses a few faster roads that the 50cc puts him at risk on so like a good dad I got him a 125. So my TZR250 has a baby brother now as I got him a full power (it is sodding quick for a 125 lol) TZR125 but for just two and a half months cover it cost me an additional £311 which sucked large ones but that is the price I had to pay. This is with Bikesure.

What I will say is that being able to now go on fun bike rides with my lad is worth much more than the cash I have laid out - and the fact I will own the TZR125 in the coming years helps lol

This pic is worth all that money!!!!!!!!!!
