Says the woman who is about to purchase possibly the fastest production bike available in the market today. Not to add salt to the wound, I did think that Tom's bike (R-6) was making lots of noise but not making much progress occasionally when he was trying to accelerate on Sunday morning - let's just say, I didn't have to drop below 4th to keep up. I admit this was not done scientifically and I'm not that confident to make the claim, but in the places I expected him to vanish - he, err, didn't.

Perhaps he's just coming over all cautious in his old age

 

You misunderstand me. I rode the R6 and hated it with a passion due to the set up and general ride style. After a process of deduction, and Leila having a go on the R6, we decided that I just didn't get on with going straight from a Hayabusa to an R6... the S1R I've ridden many times and am more than comfortable on. I really didn't feel at all comfortable, confident or indeed safe on the R6.

We were also wondering if it's in part due to the fact that I've only ever really ridden new bikes (excepting my DAS when everything felt strange) and therefore the R6 being an X reg was again, quite different.

 

Very sensible. I am beginning to understand how important these subjective things are in riding a motorbike - I am inexperienced, so don't have a range of memories to draw upon - unlike with motor cars.
