But you didn't mention anything about having the bike picked up or associated costs. Nor that the labour charge was related to checking the battery. This is what I meant by including details.

So aside from the snipes my stupidity for allowing a business due chance to rectify a complaint and about how I spend my time (which for reference I have little else to do currently, with the car being snowed in and the paths covered in ice / snow - I attempted to go out yesterday and after several minutes to get literally several meters decided otherwise, only to find I was now stuck in a rut of snow and unable to turn around. After waiting about 5 more minutes for someone to pass by and help me, while the whole time feeling on the brink of tears from the realisation of quite how helpless and fragile my situation was I decided that I would stay home until I was able to get out the house safely. Happy?), I'd prefer to look at the now fuller picture.

If the battery has failed in a short time then the seller should be willing to inspect it for free to confirm if it's faulty or not, if it has discharged through user error then you may be charged for the check.
There is no need for them to pick up or have the bike to do this, so charging you to collect it seems fair if you're not willing to remove the battery yourself.
£60ph as discussed on the other thread is excessive for anything but dyno work or specialist tuning.
There was no suggestion of parting with anymore money to the original company, only allowing them to inspect and deal with the battery as a warranty return.
As far as informations goes, it would also be helpful to know what make of battery you were given initially so people can avoid that if it turns out it wasn't faulty.
Batteries will discharge over time and alarms of course drain them, some brands faster than others. If the bike wasn't used for a period it could simply be the battery has naturally discharge and not failed, confirming this would seem to have been the first course but no mention was made if it was done.
£130 is still ludicrously expensive to swap a battery over, given it takes a sum total of 10minutes including boiling the kettle to have a cup of tea midway through.

I'm honestly sorry you had a crappy service, but for the sake of helping people avoid similar I would prefer it if there was a more complete picture. Comparing a small community to "100s of other sites on the net" isn't really relevent, out of all the reviews posted on such sites only a fraction are actually helpful, should we aim to make all posts on a subject like this beneficial?

SERIOUSLY! YES, I KNOW I HAVE BEEN SCREWED OVER ONCE, YES THIS IS LONDON AND WE ARE FUCKING SCREWED OVER FOR EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME SO CONSTANTLY POINTING IT OUT TO ME WHEN I ALREADY REALISE THIS IS HARDLY OF ANY FUCKING HELP TO ME. UNLESS YOU HAVE INVENTED A TIME MACHINE THAT CAN GO BACK AND LET ME RE-LIVE THE MOMENT WITH EVERYTHING I KNOW NOW WITH LIMITLESS TIME TO GET THINGS SORTED, PUT A SOCK IN IT! IF I WANTED J&G TO REINSPECT IT, IT WAS GOING TO COST HALF AN HOUR LABOUR AND THEN PROBABLY ANOTHER HALF HOUR LABOUR FOR SORTING IT ALL OUT BECAUSE UNSCRUPULOUSNESS IS THE WATCHWORD OF MOST MECHANICS. PLUS THE COST OF GETTING IT TO HIM, YOU MAY NOT HAVE REALISED THAT BIKES WITH DEAD BATTERIES (DEAD EVEN AFTER BEING CHARGED FOR 24 HOURS) DO NOT MAGICALLY MOVE ON THEIR OWN! PLUS THE TIME AND INCONVENIENCE OF NOT HAVING MY BIKE WHEN I REALLY WANT IT AND HAVING TO GET IT THERE AND GET IT BACK ALSO HAS A COST.

I've not been pointing out that you got screwed over, in fact I sympathised with it. But for purposes of the now catastrophically derailed thread, I asked for more info to help other members avoid a similar fate or possibly take steps toward solving a bad situation for you.

Again we get more info, the battery being recharged and not holding charge means it was desulphated, if not faulty then it was allowed to run completely flat and left for a period of time like it.
As for bikes not moving without batteries, of course they don't. But your car has a charged battery I'm guessing? As do friends cars & bikes, buses, trains and even post office vans should the measures require it.
I really can't see how paying £130 to have a bike collected for the sake of a battery exchange was seen as a better option than taking the failed one to be checked out. While we're focused on that, it does puzzle me that the new mechanic who's such a good egg that he came and collected your bike, changed the battery and brought it back for said £130 didn't just arrive at your place with an allen key and a screwdriver plus the new battery and do it there and then. Would seem a far more logical approach than carting your bike about and charging your for the pivilage...

No matter, seems you really can't trust anyone in London and given the prices they charge why would you want to!
As I said to you in sms, given the frequency work needs carrying out on a bike you may be better off finding a reputable mechanic outside the M25, it would cost half a tank of fuel for the round trip and there's not a lot that can't be done in 1 day by someone putting their mind to it.

I'm really bored with this now. How can I 'unwatch' a thread?

Ditto! Like I said, I was hoping for a simple thread of here are some mechanics to watch out for but Dave always has to have a long winded opinion on the matter.

Its to the right of the "thread tools" button at the top of the page.

EDIT: Dave beat me to it. If you can`t see it, just move your mouse directly right from the thread tool button & it`ll pop up. For some reason its showing the same colour as the background (unless you are using the default theme).

Nope, don't have that button. I marked all 'Mechanical' threads as read but still keep getting notifications .

Move your mouse around on the rh side of the screen. It is there, but as I said in the previous post, its come out the same colour as the BG. Alternatively, scroll to bottom of the page, click "Club" & select "default" then it`ll show as per Daves post.

I think it's one of those things where if you have to ask, it doesn't apply. Anyway, you can only ever dream of being fabulous... or of having three friends.

I reckon that the fabulous (glorious) four are Les, Megawatt, Ducky and a secret (unknown) assailant.
