Had my battery replaced and since then, my alarm started to make a croaky sound if you set it off and then slowly withered away and now it just makes the most helpful sound of silence :-S Even turning it on and off doesnt make its little beepy noise. Its a Meta alarm. Anyone have any ideas? Jap & German bikes that replaced the battery say its not their fault and cant tell me why! Havent had a chance to find a Meta alarm specialist. Alarm with no noise is about as useful as a bicycle to a fish!

had a similar issue with my solaarm. left the batt disconnected for a few days and after puting back on was pathetic. then stopped working then i couldnt disarm the immobiliser/alarm :bhead: . bit of research later and i realised it had its own "battery backup" inside the alrm unit which consisted of a bunch of small button sized nimh cells soldered together. these had started leaking and was shorting out contacts on the electronics. being the bright chap i am i removed the offending unit, bodged a replacemnt and cleaned up the dmagaed connections and works fine now. what i'm guessing is that once a constant 12v wasnt being fed to the alarm the battery takes over and gave up.
Firstly i would check all the connections to the alarm unit from battery just in case any knocked loose. is it just the audible alarm thats missing or does the alarm/immobiliser not arm?

But who wants a stationary Haddock?

Alarms are mostly more pain than help it seems, but as Deano says check all the obvious wirey bits are still wired. I know Hanna had a small issue with her bike cutting out because the 'professionals' that worked on it lost one of the terminal nuts so the bolt kept shaking out.

Trust no one! Except me (and possibly Deano)

It does arm so that's a start, might strong arm one of you boys into checking it for me, I'm scared of all things electrical :)

Don't be scared, you'll only break it once :D

If it's arming and immobilising (assuming it has one of them) just not making a noise, then it's the noise making bit, a connection to it, or the alarm in the absense of power has changed configuration.

That's mostly based on assumption, that you can configure it etc. Last Meta alarm I had was on my 2nd bike and it had on and off as settings.

i agree about the whole pain in the ass thing tho. the solalarm came with the ninja so just left it... technically not doing squat for my insurance as i cracked the unit open which technically invalidates i guess. but its a small deterent at least. till it goes wrong then im gonna throw it out the window.

Must say I'm not a fan of alarms either, I only used to get them so insurance companies would cover me but that was when I first started riding, never bother with them now, especially as the usual £300 purchase/fitting fee outweighs the measly £10-£20 discount you get on your premiums.

I bought a Xena Disc lock to make noise, otherwise Standard BMW Immobilizer... not Thatcham approved so no discount...and looking at how many problems these aftermarket nee naw nee naws give you...maybe better off with 19mm Almax Chain and bolt it into the ground...in Yoda's garage or shed...:ninja:
