5 to 10% veg oil in petrol? I don't think so Les? Maybe Ethanol, made from veg? Ethanol is a better fuel than petrol.

the issue with ethanol is that its hydroscopic so it sucks in moisture ..which isnt exactly a wanted trait in a fuel that is being left for a period of time....

I know we've sort of nicked the thread but (& this is better than bloody 'Strictly') I heard years ago that Mercedes experimented with a water injection device to add to a petrol engine...pre combustion? Think it was for economy/emission purposes but heard no more.

SAAB had water injection on the 900Turbo. but that was to cool the incoming air charge and make it denser? Haven't heard of it on a normally aspirated engine?

yeah my father in law mentioned it once... the water injection is used to cool the air/fuel mixture to reduce detonation etc.. also as you say used to cool air in turbo/supercharged systems too but in a differnt way

My bike ran fine on diesel the other week, I put a litre in by mistake :( it made no difference at all :) infact it was smoother and more refined

Can we spike Smeg's drinks with it? Might have the same effect.

I think the water was misted onto the intercooler to increase its thermal efficiency rather than injected into the intake... correct me if I'm wrong :otop:

My bike is completely 'wintered' now ! Do I leave the optimate on until I want to ride it or do I turn it back on every now and again?

I leave mine connected/running whenever I'm not using it, especially in winter.

Same here..I leave my bike connected whenever its in the garage, my understanding is that's the correct thing to do.

As long as the battery is good, don't think it matters either way. Mine will stay attached all winter for the extra pennies it costs on the leccy bill.
