Clean your radiator (the outside) to promote optimum airflow when moving.
    Fill your radiator with this:

Switch the fan swtich to a lower rated one so the fan comes on earlier.

In that order, stop once the bike is cool enough and your thighs are staying the correct milky colour.

Or fit a bypass switch, to switch it on earlier?

Changing the inbuilt one would eliminate the need to manually activate it. Either way, it's a last option really.

With regard to the comment re ZX9R's earlier in the thread - yep, at about 100 degrees +, my fan cuts in too. Once I'm moving (even at low speeds), the temp drops nice and quickly and the fan turns off. Granted, the engine can get pretty hot, but never enough to burn your legs. Have you tried using specialist coolants like Pro-Cool instead of the usual gash that dealers tip in? I know that this may sound obvious, but have you checked that there isn't an air-lock in the system? The only reason I ask is that a 'certain' dealership once left me with one and it caused similar effects.

On the subject of burnt thighs, I'm amazed that no-one here has suggested any 'special creams' that they'll help you to apply. Tut tut.

I don't know what that means and I don't know Tanya. Either way it sounds scary, so best behaviour all-round :speechless:

My bike gets very hot when in slow moving traffic, so hot you can feel the heat off through kevlar jeans. OK its a big V-twin thats been slightly modded but the temp warning light has never come on & the fan always kicks in & mines not faired at all.

That's because as men, we have 'proper' skin and can obviously withstand more heat than women. (Ok, now I know I'm in for a kicking). :sfight:

Think about it: cyclists race around town in tight lycra shorts and are more vulnerable than us so if Im just going a few miles locally at the same speed on a hot day they would but I can accelerate away from a sticky situation, dont see a problem with that.

Fair enough - it's your call. I just whince when I see bikers in shorts / trainers etc. Don't worry, I'm not some nerdy old fart who points fingers... I was just having a nudge.

Anyhoo, I've never ridden my bike wearing Lycra while I pop off to the shops, although it does sound fun. Hmmm... man-kini anyone? "Wow-wow-wee-woo-woo". I could double as a brolly-dolly on track days and am open to sensible offers.

i have the same sort of problem on my 2007 r1 , its because the pipes go up under the seat that you get a hot butt, the temp goes up real quick in traffic. its just how the underseat version was designed
